I do not post regularly so my views on the season havnt been heard. Firstly, at this moment in time I am fearing the worst, we were unable to beat a average team with 10 men for 45 minutes and were unable to make any clear cut chances. Having said that we have beaten currently second place in the league. However, we have been fighting until the 90th minute in every match this season with every win or defeat only being seperated by 1 goal, this means our fortunes can easily change via a mistake referee decision or piece of quality. Having looked at the table I think we have played a rather easy first 9 games and its only going to get tougher from here on in and could see us being in the relegation zone by Christmas. The players apart from last night I have been happy with. Before the transfer window ended and the thoughts of Stephens leaving I honestly wasn't fussed if he stayed or left, but now I am completely happy we kept hold of him and he is my player of the season so far. His range of passing has been top quality all season. Our rock solid defence of last season has looked shakey with us only having kept 1 clean sheet all season, I still think our defence is the best part of our team but this league is showing the quality difference between the championship and league 1. Based on the new signings, Wilson I am disappointed in. I know everyone is saying he is being scapegoated but I don't feel this is the case, he has been poor in my opinion every time I have seen him and I would prefer playing Evina at LB and move Solly back to RB. Kerkar looks like a good ball playing midfielding but he lacks the pace to play on the wing but move him into the center of the park and I feel he could be a good signing. Cook hasn't had much of a chance so can't really comment on. Fuller is a similar player to Wright-Phillips but with a physical presence and probably better shot to goal ratio but when Kermo is back would probably have him coming of the bench providing Wright-Phillips ups his game. Other than that none of the other players signed have really had a chance. I do have really high hopes for Hulse as well, he is proven at this level and means we have 5 good attacking options when all are fit who give different features to our game with Wright-Phillips, Kermo, Fuller, Haynes and Hulse.
I am confused by this you seem to say that we are the cannon fodder for the league but then say the team is good! Personally I think that we have had an indifferent start but what did people expect? The majority of the players will need to bed down in the league having never really played in it. Green, Hollands, Stephens, Taylor, Solly, Wiggins, Evina, Jackson, Waggy, Hamer, have all never really played at this level before. Then combine that with a manager who is also new to this league and a rather impressive injury list, I actually think that the mixed bag we are seeing now is going to be a steep learning curve for a lot of people involved with the club. It will only produce a stronger better charlton like what we saw with the first few months of the SCP era. We have seen just over 1/5 of the season there is still a long way to go, and this is potentially our toughest time due to the issues listed above. So in the words of Clive Dunn "Don't panic Capt. Mainwaring!!"
