So reports are saying manure are look at buying Alan Dzagoev. Well ive been saying newcastle united should sign him since he was 17! Now valued at 18M and 21 tipped to be a risen star similar to style of messi we have no hope. To be honest i think our scouting is terrible, Couple of good buys in tiote and cabaye but there not the next "amazing" thing. How can i notice this kid at 17 so many years ago and yet no clubs do. Im the only one who watches russian, brazilian and chilean football? Comon Toon scouts stop being lazy! Opinions on our scouting network....Good?...Bad?....
Might be a little harsh to criticise the Newcastle scouting system when apparently nobody has been going in for him? It seems as though few players are bought from Russia, makes me wonder if their clubs are hard to deal with? Or if they just have enough money they don't look to sell?
Yes true, but for saying we are a club in the "best league in the world" you would have thought scouts would expand a little more then sticking to local and european clubs. Problem i see at newcastle i we only aim for few years in the future, when usually it all slides wrongly again. Our scouting is getting better for sure we are aiming for younger talent now but i still think we need to aim even younger. Why plan for just 3-4 years when you can plan for 6-7 years. We have a good enough academy and small squad in total to capatlize on trying out new talent from around the world. Its a gamble on younger stars but u dont get anywhere with out some form of gambling. I just see way to much talent at clubs which are not watched by the masses and looked over....Maybe i have arsene attitude but I dont like the idea of scouting teams like championship teams, french leagues. Its short term scouting and wont bring anything in 5-6 years down the line when we need to replace another crock or buy last minute and pay stupid amount for cover.
Definitely this. We have a scouting team that are picking out youths like Vuckic and Hesakmi, obviously doing a great job.
Ah yes, those great unknowns Cabaye and Tiote, who'd both played in the Champions League and won titles in high profile leagues before we signed them.
I knew about Cabaye about 4 years before we signed him purely because of football manager! And Tiote was a beast in the World Cup and most people knew about him. The Vuckic deal was a coup admittedly, but we weren't the only club looking at him. I'm sure I read he was on trial at Milan before he signed for us. However, I'm still happy that our reserve team looks so strong. I don't see why Abeid, Vuckic, JJ Hooper or Adam Campbell can't be playing in the first team in 8 years.
This sort of thing annoys me. A lot of clubs have probably looked at this guy and thought about him, but decided no. Maybe because they thought he couldn't hack it, or maybe the risk was too much because he was still very young and might go off the boil or maybe they just wanted to let them develop, maybe they were in need of experience. Maybe some teams did bid but the offer was too low. Maybe he decided he'd be better off playing week in week out than moving. There's so many maybe's it's so silly to say that the entire Premier League scouting network has just missed him. Life is not Football Manager!
When he was 17 he would still have been expensive. In Russia, they are very rich clubs and don't just accept small bids. Carr will know this player and will have for years
My mistake, but he had been at a CL club, and had played in the UEFA Cup. He certainly wasn't a low profile player when we signed him anyway. Edit: After a bit more research it appears that he did play in the CL - Against AC Milan in 06/07.
Hey! The buying of youth players and paying of compensation has become a lot more realistic on FM 12! (As a soul who has lost their social life to this game, I will ardently defend it. )
