With vague rumours circulating about roughly 82m strikers joining Spurs this summer, perhaps it's not surprising that one of them happens to be lining up against us in our final friendly fixture, taking place at WHL v Athletic Bilbao this Saturday.

This could be a handy opportunity to run the rule over Fernando Llorente for Redknapp and his staff or even for Levy to tie up a deal.
Alternatively, it could just be an even more handy way for rumour-mongers to spout a load of rubbish.

What are people's opinions on the 26-year-old targetman?

He's a good player, too good for Athletic Bilbao in my opinion. Would play the lone striker well, but you might want to ask NSIS if he does for Athletic. I hope some Spurs scouts are watching, and not just Harry. Anyone else going to the game, I know I am?

I had a good conversation with Greaves on him PNP, he lives in Spain and his father-in-law is a La Liga nut (RM fan), anyway, his opinion was Llorente is exactly what we're looking for, so I too had already intended to have a close look at him on Sat....5.15 ko though, so only if I can still focus by then!:emoticon-0110-tongu

How many players get sold for their buy-out value, Lidls?

So only about 4 clubs can buy players now, Lidls?
    Don't be silly.

    It's a nickname, CS.
It differentiates him from the store.
If I were to use a proper acronym, then he'd be LDL.

I wouldn't put too much stock in any reported bids in January, Lidls.
Which one of the big money clubs would you see moving for him, anyway?
Are you trying to suggest that Llorente would go for more than Aguero?

Madrid where supposed to buy him in the summer according to all the pundits and journo's who report on La Liga. Then everthing went silent from Madrid's end. They seem to have turned their attentions to Neymar who has rejected a move. Maybe Llorente was a Valdano target and since he left, Llorente is in limbo. He is clearly not worth the same amount as Aguero but is a £20 Million plus player. If he went from more then that would be a shock to me. Juan Mata and Santi Cazorla are both going for around the £20-25 Million mark.

    Santi Cazorla?
Moved to Malaga for €21m about a week ago.

Have Malaga or PSG even been linked with Llorente, Lidls?

You're basing your claims on absolutely nothing, Lidls.
How do you know who Malaga would or would not be interested in?

Malaga have RVN and Julio Baptista, i know they are rich therefore money is not a problem but i doubt they also want Llorente and there has not been any talk about Llorente moving to them. Like i said since the Madrid move broke down, Llorente has not really been talked about much this summer.

    No SSN8, Lidls knows better.
If Spurs bid for any striker in Spain, then Malaga will bid more.
    He's psychic.

If we try to buy Llorente, Rossi and Benzema, then they'll outbid us for all three. <doh>

    Exactly.
    If...

We supposedly bid for about 18 different strikers in January and now don't have any money at all.
Frankly, it's a load of bollocks.

Of course we'd have to get some players off the wage bill in order to sign Llorente, but it's a necessity regardless.
We've just got too many players.

Levy needs to do some business quickly.
The transfer window may not close for nearly a month, but the season starts in just over a week.
We need to make the right signings and not just the fastest, but we definitely do need to make some.

I've seen plenty of Llorente and he would fit the bill perfectly.

I'm more concerned that the likes of Bentley Keane and others are still on the books...there's only 28 days to get rid of them!

Two major factors have changed since January:

    1) His contract is six months closer to expiry and this is now the penultimate summer transfer window where they can command any sort of fee for him. The fee in the next one will be significantly less than the one they could get now (as with Nasri and the suggested prices now).

    2) The bid (hopefully) won't be made on the last day of the transfer window, giving Bilbao more than 8 hours to find a replacement. I doubt they'd have taken £35mill+ with such a short time to find a replacement.

Personally, I don't think we'll get him but those two factors have to be taken into consideration when thinking about what fee should be needed to prise him away.
