"By Dan King - Newcastle United Club Reporter
Davide Santon's impressive displays for Newcastle United have been rewarded with a recall to the Italy squad.
The Portomaggiore-born 21-year-old has seven caps for the Azzurri having made his debut in 2009, but hasn't played for his country since March 2011 - shortly before his move to St. James' Park that summer.
However, he's been one of Alan Pardew's star performers in the Barclays Premier League and has now been selected for Cesare Prandelli's squad for next week's friendly against France.

Italy take on Les Bleus in Parma on Wednesday, 14th November and Santon could come face-to-face with his club colleague Yohan Cabaye, who is in the France squad.
Ex-Inter Milan defender Santon has made 12 appearances in all competitions so far for United this season."

Great for him, Just hope he doesn't get injured!!!

Deserved it entirely. His improvement looks to have been vast this season, and if he keeps developing at this level he could become something truly special.

Fantastic news for him (if not for us) and well deserved. Been one of our best performers this term.

I'm delighted to see this, and 'Over the Moon' for Santon, a quality player and a favourite of mine! <ok>

    A. Where's Newcastle?

    B. You know, that place that all the good players go to and get recognised and chosen to play for their Country.

    Well done Santon, well deserved!

Best full back we've had in years and by some distance too. It's scary that he's so good despite being so young

the fact that he loves it here and has a Geordie lass must count for something.

Agreed> Now that he knows he doeswn't need to go somewhere else to get noticed internationally, he shouldbe nicely settled in (until someone unsettles him, of course)

I beg to differ... I know he's really our best full back by default (unless we're talking Stephen Carr or Andy Griffin in contention....), but I love every part of his game, except that he, like Obertan Sammy and so many of our wide players, can't cross a fooking ball to save his life!!!!!!!!!

I start to wonder if Perchy will ever get a chance to be picked for England. That is assuming he keeps up his Perchino form.

I think there is a good chance he will stay long term. If you look around the top sides in this country, they all have youngish right backs and left backs. The only one which would concern me slightly is Man City. Mankini will be well aware of him. He doesn't really fancy Richards (who is centre half for me anyway). Plus I could see Mankini moving on and Jose M following him there. Jose knows him well and is a confessed fan.

An Inter fan who I speak with regularly (owns an Italian restaurant here but back in Italy regular) and knows Santon says he is not itching to go back to Italy. Feels he got shat on a bit by Inter and like their fans, was supposedly very disappointed they were willing to let him go in favour of retaining a load of ancients. With now meeting a lass here, like Krul, he is developing strong ties with the area. If we keep progressing and he gets international recognition, only a megabucks move is likely to tempt him.

Unfortunately Hodgson, like so many other England managers suffer from a type of blindness which prevents them from seeing players in black and white shirts

    This!

For a long time the North East has been seen as a graveyard for international career, being in the outer reaches of Scotland as we are.

If national coaches are treating our club with respect as opposed to, 'yeah he's playing well but he hasn't proven himself at a big club', then it bodes well for potential signings.

Falcao and Neymar have no excuse now! <ok>

To be fair, would anyone really pick Perch for England? I have to be honest and say no way I would. There are many better right backs and many bette midfielders. Don't get me wrong he has been very consistent but it would be akin to the clamour for Grant Holt last year for me!
