    Fatty played a blinder here...

Italian news outlets report that a tenth appearance for Inter Milan by Davide Santon on Sunday triggered the clause to turn his loan move into a permanent transfer.

As his parent club were seeing their defensive options further reduced by the dismissal of Fabricio Coloccini against Everton at Goodison Park, Santon was taking his place among the Inter substitutes in the San Siro.

A 62nd minute introduction for the defender during a 1-1 draw with Cesena brought up the ten game tally in all competitions for the Serie A side - who must now pay a claimed €4m (£2.84m) fee. The length of his deal is tbc.

The Inter Live website also reports that Santon's new employers had contacted Newcastle officials before Sunday's game to complete the required paperwork.

Santon was contracted to the Magpies until the end of the 2015/16 season and played his first 10 senior games for Inter in 39 days. The same number of outings in our colours took 365 days....

When asked out the situation at the most recent fan forum, the following response was given:

the board accepted a loan deal which it did not feel would still be there in the summer window.Despite PL clubs receiving prize money based on their finishing position, and each place worth an extra £1.236m last season, the risk of retaining Santon and attempting to climb the table was obviously deemed too great in the face of a guaranteed cash boost. Finance 1 football 0.

Just proves that the people running the club are absolute ****s. Go in to the Arsenal game with one fit centre back.

£2.84m? £2.84 bloody mil? For Santon? How much did we buy him for? nothing confirmed but at a guess I'd say £5mil (wikipedia says £5.3m)? so a loss of £2.16million unless we stole him for a bag of nuts orginally...

    a great win for finance...

But think of all the money saved on wages... I suspect taking 2.odd now and getting a sizeable chunk of the wage-bill was more interesting to Ashley than having a decent-ish player we'd probably lose for nowt at the end of his contract and have to pay what, 40k a week?

Bare-bones asset stripping year after year. How come 50,000 turn up every week to watch this absolute shower? It's unbelievable!

We have accountants? Surely a monkey being used for medical testing with one eye could work out that is one of the worst bits of business.......EVER, not even in football but in general!

It doesn't add up which ever way you slice it? why would you lose half your money on an investment unless you know you would lose more by keeping it? But as far as i could tell Santon loved it here, loved the fans, loved the city, loved playing for the club. Unless he has come in and said "My contracts up in 18 months and I won't sign a new one regardless..." I can't see how you would come to the conclusion that selling him for half of what you paid for him would make any sense.

That or others could be right and MA is asset stripping in anticipation for a quick exit...can't see it myself but we can wish.

How is selling our first-team players going to make the club more attractive to buyers? It's not like Santon's been on colossal wages. He's been out injured for the whole season and springs into first team action the minute he leaves us. Someone please explain!!!

Apparently as news came through of the sending off at Goodison he was seen on his knees in front of the manager begging him to bring him on as a defender even though they were 2-0 down at the time.

This sale is really starting to piss me off.
The lad loves the area and not a lot of overseas players openly state that.
I liked him as a player and hoped that we could turn him into a decent winger eventually.

Especially when you consider we paid about the same for Haidara. Ludicrous!

Ashley needs his fat arse kicking from the Milburn stand to the pitch. Then the minions can invade the turf and kick the fat ****er some more.
