I think he doesn't want to demoralise the team. Hopefully, he's a bit more ruthless behind closed doors!
Our biggest problem as fans is we've been spoiled for years now , on great results on limited spending . After playing teams like Chelsea & Manchester United , I find it a bit comical listening to some talk past teams like Blackburn & Everton as if we should get an automatic 3 points . I just can't get past the fact that were in the Premier League to do much complaining , every game is fantastic ... win or lose . Grab a few role players in January & carry on . My biggest joy was getting here , anyone who thinks we'll stay in this league any length of time is fooling themselves IMO .
Overall a poor negative performance which ultimately got what it deserved. Having reached 10th spot on a couple of occasions was probably a bit flattering. 14th to 17th is probably where we should be at present. One thing that may work in our favour is that the Premier League is very predictable; bottom half teams hardly ever beat top half teams and that means it's difficult for teams in the relegation zone to haul themselves out. Or is that b*ll*cks.
having watched MOD last night you can see why other teams are scoring goals, our midfield is our biggest problem in that you never see them take on players and run with the ball through the middle of the field like other teams, they have been programmed to keep the ball among themselves and the back four having been so successful at it through the leagues but im afraid it dont work in the premiership except to keep teams from scoring many goals against us, brendan says we were unlucky when we lose 1-0 but i say until they scored we never had a shot on or off target and did not look like scoring in a million years, it was only when we were chasing for a draw did we actually get a couple of shots on target and only one decent cross in the whole game where danny met it superbly and was unfortunate to head the ball straight at the keeper. I know we only have 3 or 4 players capable of playing in the premiership but we must take some chances going forward especially the midfield and take some long range shots to test their goalkeeper, you only have to watch norwich and qpr to see you can score or at least have some chances to score throughout the match. unless we change the way we play to a far more aggressive forward game we are not going to get anywhere even if we do get 6 new players in january.......our style of football just do not work especially away from home and never will.....sod the praises from other managers they are just being polite having won against us. lets hope instead of the players and manager saying we will learn from this that they actually do learn and change the way they play......
You don't need a space between the last word of the sentence and the full-stop. Like this. Not like this .
I just hope that Paul Lambert is going to send Brendan a DVD boxset of all Norwich`s games this season for Crimbo, just so he can see how to score goals and make a game of it, and how to play for the full 90 minutes +.
put it like this...to me this is the weakest premiership i have seen for years and if we only stop playing the passing game in our own half for most of the game and play a more direct game then even with the players we have got we will score more goals, we are no worse and have better players than anyone from the 8th place down to bottom its just our system is wrong. we done well at the beginning as it was our honeymoon period and our reputation went before us and teams were cautious when they played us but today teams know exactly what we are about. Im not saying by the way we should cut out our passing game as its what we are about, take arsenal for instance we have been compared more than once to play like them and they had a bad start in the beginning but look at them now, they still pass the ball neatly but in a forward motion and they get players up in the oppositions half that gives at least 5 players in with a chance of scoring. We wont go down i firmly believe that as nobody in the bottom 12 places are brilliant and im sure that when brendan brings a few players in he will tweak the way we are playing now to a more forward attacking force. we are all relying on just danny, lita or moore to score our goals but the midfield should get themselves in a position that they can chip in with a few goals, they cant do that in their own half however much they keep the ball between themselves and our defence and danny cant be expected to have no support when he does get the ball.....we will be fine im sure we will be as the catalyst is there but it needs a tweak here and there....
Simple problem is we have too many players whose first thought when they get the ball is where is the nearest pass backwards when we are away. Im starting to get frustrated with a lot of our players. I know i will probably get a lot of **** for this but Britton is one of the major culprits of this. Britton could make about 60 passes per game with them all going backwards or sideways....great when we are at home an he is pulling in 2/3 players into the space around him and getting the ball out to the space for wingers to attack. But yesterday was a prime example of him getting the ball away from home....no pressure on him at all and he still goes backwards when we need a midfielder who can either thread a decent ball forward or shoot...neither of which it seems Britton can do apart from the rare occasion!!!
Leon is our best midfileder. He plays in a position where he is not expected to be playing expansive passes, therefore to criticise him for not doing that is a bit harsh. Take Xavi for example, who plays a similar role to Leon, albeit slightly further forward. His first thought in most situations is to retain possession, but the very fact that he has Iniesta playing in front of him means he has a forward pass available pretty much every time he gets the ball. We need to be more expressive in midfield, but Leon is not the one that needs to change. It is down to Joey Allen or whoever is playing the attacking midfield position to offer those Iniesta type options when we have the ball. Personally, I think we need a new attacking midfield option because none of our players can actually offer an Iniesta option at the moment, and to expect them to be able to is a bit optimistic. I know I am on my own with this view, but our defensive, ball retention philosophy is what will keep us up. We should have lost to Newcastle, and maybe should have been beaten by more at Everton, but we got a draw at Anfield, and almost got a draw at the Emirates. I think we will pick up enough clean sheets away from home to sneak a few draws, and our home form will keep us up. We just don't have the players to be playing attacking football away from home, and until we sign someone, we need to be grinding out the draws.
I think what we need is a player who can turn and face upfield, and nip forward, as much as he can retain possession. Allen, I think, could do it, but needs to learn the role.
