Ok I have done a little bit of searching and I believe there is a system in place called Salary Cost Management Protocol, the extract below is from the football league website, link to page also below. Anyone know how this will effect teams like Crawley with regards to wages? Also with the reduction from 60% to 55% this could account for part of the reduction in wage budget for the up coming season. Please leave your views, thoughts and opinions for discussion.

"In order to meet the objectives of Financial Fair Play, Championship clubs have agreed to work towards the introduction of new regulations to be developed and approved by the beginning of the 2012/13 season, League 1 clubs have agreed to implement the Salary Cost Management Protocol (SCMP) - which limits spending on player wages to a proportion of total turnover - from 2011/12 and League 2 clubs, having successfully operated the SCMP at a 60% threshold since 2003, will reduce it to 55% next season.

Hope some of you find this interesting and helpful.

Link not working at the moment.... :emoticon-0112-wonde

However, I am wondering how on earth Crawley can achieve this, unless promoted teams from the BSP are excluded for the first season.

Or they have very good financial advisors...:emoticon-0105-wink:

Surely, for this season, they would be excluded until they have at least a season in this League so that a proper turnover figure can be calculated on the their time in this League. It will then be on this basis that the wage figures can be calculated. The following season may be different but if they then get promoted will they be excluded again because they will be newcomers to League 1? What would happen if they signed several ex Premier League players this year that would stand them in good stead for a few seasons? The mind boggles.

Just seen in the Mail on Sunday that "Up to a dozen Football League clubs each season have had secret transfer embargoes imposed on them in the past eight years because of a variety of financial infringements, League sources have confirmed to Inside Sport. Some have been enforced because clubs have been in administration."

Looks like SCMP is enforced in secret.

Interesting reading although I have a slight issue with all of this, if I am understanding it correctly.

I have believed for a long time, that ALL clubs should be forced to work within financial restraints, however, surely this has been implemented unfairly by just starting with the imposal on League Two clubs.

Yeah ok, it may be introduced to other leagues at stated dates but how the hell can League Two clubs compete with League One clubs for players who had no restraints, even though some of these League One clubs may have been spending beyond their means, when League Two clubs have been budgeting accordingly?
