For those of us who can't regularly get to matches I was wondering what fellow forumites do while Saints are playing? I tend to be glued to Soccer Saturday or the midweek version nervously waiting for score updates or very occasionally listening to the commentary on Player. What do the rest of you do? any strange customs?
I manage most games these days, but when I can't I insist on wearing an old Saints training shirt in the run up and during the game. Had to go to a formal dinner when we played West Ham at their place and wore it under my shirt. It was a top I bought as we started the great escape in '98 and I didn't wear it when I missed out on the Rochdale away game last season - and we all know what happened. If I can I'll listen to Player, just for whispering Dave's comments, or follow on i phone much to my wife's chagrin!
I run my own adult footy team in a local league, we play every Saturday so don't get to many sat matches but moving to Sunday league next year so I can take my son more often
If I'm at home, I have Sky on and BBC championship on my computer. I like to see how the league table changes on BBC, but scores are slow on the computer compared with Sky scores. If I'm at work I try to avoid the person handing out breaks until 4.00 so at least I'll get the half-time score...often have to share TV room with a Pompey-supporting manager, but lately that has been very enjoyable. I can practice that sad but be brave look.
I do go to all home games, but when were away i watch sky sports, with bbc website next to me, listening on saint player. EPIC!!!!!
Saints player is the only option to listen to live games, occasionally able to get a live stream that works for more than two minutes but the commentary is always way ahead of the stream so I usually rely on the commentary and use either bbc or sky for updates on the other games. I will be awake at 3.45 on Wednesday morning for the Ipswich game.
I watch the videprinter on Soccer Saturday and twitch involuntarily every time Northampton or Southport score/concede, even if I know we aren't playing that day!
Oh yes, that was me on Sat, bloody Southport! It's a state of hyper-sensitivity in which logic and reason play no part. I tend to skip from Sky Score Center to the BBC site on the old computer so I can keep up to date on the current table. Can't stand Solent I'm afraid.
I try very hard not to listen to the radio as i can't stand dave merrington. I'll normally have my laptop on bbc or something.
Living in a student household with no TV so it's laptop for me. Sometimes I stream Sky Sports News because I just can't live without it.
Same here. Dont make it across the water to many matches. Soccer Saturday on mute, with Saints Player's live commentary on the go; and bbc sport on another tab.
When we are playing away I have live text commentary BBC and Livescore.com going. Sometimes I try to find a stream or radio but that's rare.
Since getting an iPhone, I do tend to check the scores as they come in, wherever I happen to be. If I can listen to Solent, then I will although it's never that comfortable unless we are at least 2 ahead. Last week was particularly uncomfortable!
I'm always confident until kick off, then I go to pieces. With a few hours to kick off, we will win 3.1 or 3.0. During the game I won't relax until 2 goals up.
For a week night game, I tend to listen to BBC Solent. But usually on a Saturday, it's Jeff and the boys for me.
I've just moved to a far away land called Shepton Mallet. It's so quiet it's unreal. I won't have broadband working until mid march so I will be praying that my one bar of reception on the iPhone allows me to keep checking BBC sport or this forum. I have Sky Sports so I get that on for the whole of Saturday. The missus is never happy though. I always use the excuse that she made me move away from my beloved home town so I need my fix of Saints / football to keep me sane. I wish I could get to more games but the only ones I've attended this season were the damn Bristol City games. I work in Bristol with lots of City fans. On the basis we lost both I have decided to stay away so not to jinx any further games this year.
