Frustrating, but if the offer from Utd is there it makes complete sense for him from his perspective. His stock is high right now. If we don’t go up you’d have to say his job gets harder; harder to attract good players, harder to retain good players, harder to sell the leftover players. And therefore his career trajectory lowers So if the offer from Utd is now or never (ie not wait until end of the season) then I get it. In a way it shows what a coup it was getting him in initially. Let’s go find the next one.
Said on Sky that Utd believe he has a release clause, which they have activated. But Saints don’t believe there is a release clause so he has resigned. Imagine it will go to some contractural lawyer to iron it out, but he is clearly off
It’s annoying, but who in their current line of work wouldn’t take a higher paid job maybe 3 or 4 times salary with a huge company, and have a big say if you worked for a one man band.
Don’t blame him for wanting to go, surely the timing of the announcement was ridiculous though, half time in our biggest game of the season where we are winning 2-1 (no idea how it got our mind you)
Can’t knock him for going. Not really that fussed. What has he done that’s deserved the move? None of his signings have been particularly outstanding. Seems like a chance to improve to me.
Wonder if we will go back to City’s youth staff for his replacement. Also could be a change of direction play style wise
We've stolen two other clubs' managers since SR came in. Karma. At least Wilcox lasted longer than Joe Shields.
According to the Echo, Wilcox has to give 1 years notice and Utd have only offered the equivalent of 1 years salary as compensation, which is a piss take if correct. Especially as Newcastle put a £20 million price tag on their guy. Having lost Shields so quickly, and now this, I hope we play hard ball and either get a big settlement or we put Wilcox on leave for the duration of his notice and see if Utd are prepared to wait for him.
It will go to the lawyers. Whole purpose of gardening leave is to stop an employee going straight to a competitor fresh from a senior role in a company where they know exactly what the company is planning/moves making and can take that info to their new role. We aren’t a competitor of Man U and whatever we are planning they couldn’t care less about. He will resign and some sort of compensation package will be agreed, no idea how much senior back room staff cost in these sorts of scenarios, my guess would be hundreds of thousands rather than millions

Great point. He was apparently responsible for chasing Martin- hardly a massive success. Which one of his signings have been great? Shea Charles? Ross Stewart? How will we cope without him?
I don't see it as much of a loss either. Can't think of anyone he has brought in that was either ground breaking or a wow moment i.e. couldn't have been done by anyone else. And failed to secure the one thing we needed - a fit striker
Apparently United offered us one year salary to buy him out of his notice period (which is 12 months). We said no to that and that we would want more, he said he'd resign, and we said "well go on then, cos you still have to serve your notice period, so you wouldn't be able to join them for a year".
