I'd have thought if Long was not in our plans we'd have tried to sell him rather than loan him (unless we tried and couldn't) Quite possible Long will not want to go out on loan at this stage (consider disruption to family life etc. )
I watched a bit of the open training session live and Gallagher is the kind of player I like to see up front. Athletic, strong, carries himself very well and can strike the ball. Has a similar look to Reuben Loftus Cheek who I also like. I'm not beating the Gallagher drum for the sake of it, it is great that we got Ings in the last window but I really want to see Gallagher getting game time this season. I want to see if he's got what we need.
Sparky has already said he wants to keep Gallagher and not being in the U23s probably just means he is seen as a first team player.

Well Saturday will now unexpectedly be my first game of the season with thanks to someone's generosity. Buzzing
Ridiculous decision, further emphasises that Hughes won't be bringing anyone through. Sims is a real talent who lights up games unlike certain other Southampton wingers who seem to be starting week in week out.
Based on what exactly. Sims has been poor to average when played. I accept others have too, but seriously people seem to think every player coming through the academy is Bale or Walcott. He needs game time to see how he develops aspects of his game. Good on the club for doing so rather than him only training.
Personally don't think he has been poor to average when thrown on for 20 minutes, no one is saying he is Bale or Walcott (at least I'm not) but at least he gets forward and runs at players looking to create something, sometimes that youthful attitude in the game can pay dividends, he brings an element of unpredictability to our attack when playing and personally I think he is a great bench option for us nevermind if we pick up a couple of injuries throughout the campaign, thus my disappointment. I do understand the viewpoint that the game time he should hopefully get at Reading will help him develop, I would just prefer he gained that experience here.
Fair point, but my view is he isn’t good enough yet for first team, and ample managers seem to agree. I hope he kicks in during his loan as there could be a good player there.
