Not but required imo. Highly doubt that would have stopped people who do this sort of ****. Hardly surprising though. Scumbags acting like ****s on social media hardly headline news unfortunately.
Tricky regarding an apology. If he came out with an apology on social media, he'll just be opening himself up for even more abuse, which he (imo, fairly) doesn't want to have to deal with. At a best bet, something will crop up in his next public interview (does he still do captains notes in the program? ), but I don't think there'll be one as such. It certainly wouldn't have stopped the twats sending abuse.
As captain he can't shy away from something like this, just because 'he doesn't want to deal with it'. Come on. This wasn't a missed penalty, or a few below par performances. What he did would have been unforgivable even under normal circumstances, but considering we had no other experienced CBs available, it could have become another famous thrashing; Chelsea could have scored double figures comfortably.
A player got sent off and people are calling for a public apology... jesus christ. That is the definition of the game is gone! Red cards happen, unless it's for something Cantona-esque like GBH, get on with it!
It's not just one incident though. It's the verbal abuse of the match offiicals against Man Utd that copped him an extra 2 game ban as well. Plus it's the pure stupidity of this red card. He's not showing he's worthy of being captain. Being suspended for 9 games before Christmas is appalling conduct.
Article on Dibling. Tyler Dibling: Southampton’s standout star – and his route (via Chelsea) to the Premier League - The Athletic
Wasn't just a mis-timed tackle though was it? If anything our fans need to be harsher. We've become too soft. Not even allowed to boo a performance without being tutted at. No wonder RM treats us like f*cking mugs.
The athletic need to **** off. He's ****e. Completely ****e. No other club will want him. Said it the other day, saying it again.
I'm not excusing his behaviour at all, you're putting words in my mouth. I just dont' agree that we should expect an apology, certainly not on a platform where he's already getting enough abuse to come off said platform. Yes, an apology might be nice, but I'm certainly not entitled enough to expect one.
Why shouldn't we expect an apology? He's literally let everyone at the club down. Can see fans turning against him at games when he returns if this isn't addressed. Especially if Martin is still here and we keep losing.
Each to their own. I agree his personal social media is the wrong place for it, but perhaps through the official club channels. I don't want a player like that as the club captain of the team I support. I don't want to pay money to watch any of our players pulling the hair of opponents. Am I really being entitled here? Jeez.
I think we'll just agree to disagree here to be honest lads; we all agree that his actions weren't up to standard at least, and social media is a cesspit for all
Wouldn’t surprise me if he feels hard done by tbh and that Cucurella has got him sent off. Pinching, standing on calves/toes even grabbing hair/balls happens between attackers and defenders all the time to annoy the opposition/assert yourself. Stephens was an idiot because Cucurella is exactly the sort of player who will get you sent off for doing it and in today’s game you aren’t going to get away with it if a player goes down. But it wouldn’t surprise me if Stephens feels that Cucurella was a **** for getting a fellow pro sent off or some other bullshit excuse for reacting like he did
He could at least have ****ing hit him. If Saints players are getting reds I want it to be for a full on punch up, not hair pulling
Russell made a rod for his own back by making Jack the captain. he is at least the third best CB at the club and the (weaker) team formations have been made to accommodate him. He has proved this season that he doesn't have the temperament or common sense to be captain and someone else should do the job imo.
I've heard this a lot lately; but genuine question, at the time, who would you have picked? Because there wasn't much in the way of leadership ... we were all pretty agreeing at the time it was a good decision. Looking back to August 2023 - Stuart Armstrong's future was up in the air. As was Bednareks. As was KWPs. As was Adams. JWP had just left. We had no Downes or THB (and when we did, they were only loans so not captain material)
Downes is the obvious choice after he was signed and once it was clear that Bedders and THB were the best partnership. Adarma was captain during most of the 25 match unbeaten run iirc.
