That and if he thinks the England will ever call him up (after all, he doesn't play for a "big club"). And also, frankly, who he thinks will do better in International football; at least with Nigeria he's got the occasional a chance of winning the African cup of nations. Probably a greater one than England winning a WC or Euros...
I would think having to play ACON would be considered a negative. Would hurt his chances of getting into the first team if he is leaving for a month mid-season. And Nigeria doesn't exactly have the most stable football federation.
ACON didn't do any harm to Wanyama's career & to be fair, he's far more likely to be called up by Nigeria than England; so if he wants international football at all, he might not have much choice.
Fair enough - didn't wiki it to check. All depends on how good he turns out, and how many players are ahead of him in that position. It really is possible he ends up being good enough for Nigeria but not England. He'd be mad not to take that opportunity. Good enough for an England call up, then sure, he'll probably take that instead.
... and in addition, if he's good enough for Nigeria at the AFCON, that probably means we've got a good young player in our hands, developed by us and very likely first team option... If he's good enough to be thinking international level.
Not a decision to rush. Usually players wait until it is obvious they won't play for their own country before they opt for another side. He's still young.
True. I'm not saying that he shouldn't do it, just that playing ACON might be the part of the deal he doesn't look forward to. The benefits of being an international in general, and especially being able to potentially play in the World Cup likely outweigh that. Like you, I'm guessing it mostly depends on what he feels his chances are representing England.

Sensible decision has to be to wait until the end of age group international football. If he is playing for England U21 he knows he has a chance, and if not he can swap.
