I’m looking forward to seeing the lad play, and what he can bring for us. Simple as that for me really.
Can't see this as anything but a good thing, He sounds to me like the type of player we need. My main issue is why this deal wasn't done 2-3 weeks ago, we seem to have paid over the odd's for him so delaying the transfer till the end of the window to maybe save a few quid seems like very poor judgement to me.
If you want to conclude a deal quickly, then you can always pay over the odds, but there is so much that goes on behind the scenes, it’s all just speculation. I am sure that the deal is done as soon as it can be. What makes you think that we delayed things?
We've basically got this dude and £55M for the Dick. Seems like he could be just what we need to rough a few defences up. Lets see what he can do because at the mo we need more options up top.
I'm only speculating, we seem to do the majority of our deals later in the window which has been fine in previous years because we have been in a healthy postion. Its been common knowledge for a while that this guy has been our main target so i am guessing as a club we have had him identified since Austin's injury. I believe we have left the deal till late to save a few quid which looks like to me has back fired a bit cause £19m still seems to be expensive. I admit that 9 times out 10 i am completely wrong but its just how it looks to me.
What makes you think that we delayed things? ______________________________________ We've missed a trick here. In a weeks time we could have had that Jim bonehead creaming himself over a last minute deal! Just think of the ratings.
I likes lot a of your posts Schad, but for me this just bears out your apparent willingness to find the negative. Pelle wasn’t the hold up player some thought he’d be (people may have noticed my criticism of him on that area ) but my goodness he was important for us and he delivered as a signing. Maybe this new chap will do the same if he signs and is given a chance. I feel the player you are expecting or wanting is unlikely to sign for Saints.
So you're speculating that we delayed to reduce the price but that actually increased the price. This is based on no evidence and you claim to be wrong 9 times out of 10. Hmmm ... I think this may be one of the 9
I do think some fans have inflated ideas of the kind of players that Saints can sign.....especially strikers who are at a premium. As for the delay we have no idea what caused it....discussions can go down many roads. We aren't letting in lots of goals...games tend to be close, so a few goals could earn us a lot of important points this late in the season....so those worried that he might do a Gabbi and be a flash in the pan...I say, bring it on.
I am very much hoping he will be in the Pelle mould, Pelle bought out the best in Tadic and I am hoping this will be repeated.
I was wondering if maybe guido was waiting to see the outcome of proms? Perhaps making sure the clubs ambitions match his? Either way I look forward to seeing him in our red and white as apposed to Monaco.
I think buying a player is probably like buying a house and being in a chain. Nobody can move until everyone else has their ducks in a row. All I ask, is to give the board the benefit of the doubt. The implication that they are deliberately reckless, incompetent or lazy when it comes to transfer dealings is wide of the mark, IMO.
So you think we have played out this transfer well in not completing it till the last week of the window. (that's if we do indeed complete it) Surely there is a part of you that thinks this looks like a simple transfer and should have been completed earlier?
And perhaps Guido wasn't our first choice, so we came in harder after it was clear he had moved to first choice by default. Or he had other choices and then suddenly didn't. Or his wife didn't want to leave France*. The reasons can be endless and don't just include trying to save pennies. *Yes, I know Monaco isn't technically France before the pedant police come out.
Yeah i mostly agree but in this case we were buying a fringe player, I'm guessing Monaco would have sold without having a replacement lined up so no chain. I
Fair point, but i think my point is the most obvious. Money talks and all your points apart from first choice become void if he joins us.
Yes. Basically, as soon as we sign someone, I develop a naive hope that we are the fit for them and they are going to be ****ing brilliant for us.
What kind of fan are you....the official line is that all signings have to be crap so we can get relegated and Mauricio and Les get sacked. Apparently this is the only way forward.
Think that is the view of the minority, I think most fans feel this is a good signing and i expect all fans to give the lad a chance.
