Tpday's Independent sport have a piece on United investigating the possibility of creating a section within Old Trafford for people to safe stand. I think this is a very good move by the club along with the singing section, not harsh to admit Old Trafford can be quiet at times and the players would need some motivation from the support. Have the stadium rocking again like it did in the 70s/80s.
I think it has little to do with whether people are sitting or standing as to how much noise they make. Likely more to do with the fact that Utd were pants in the 70's and 80's so it was only the hardcore fans who went to matches, who are very vocal. Now they are very successful you have the plastic prawn sandwich brigade, who are very quiet. Same thing has happened at Chelsea mate.
I agree there, they are two different things. @Matth Standing should be brought back definitely, it's just a far better experience for everyone and those who want to sit can still sit in the seated section
Would love standing sections at grounds. As long as only the same amount of people are allowed into that section of the ground (as currently with seats), it can't be any more dangerous can it? Creates better atmosphere in my experience and works well in Germany for instance. Don't think it'll solve the issues at OT, Emirates and SB etc though. Succesful clubs attract tourist who watch games behind their ipads and don't know any of the songs.
The atmosphere inside Old Trafford was superb in the 90's also. Since the turn of the century, less so. Since about 2008, completely ****.
Yes, thats because the hardcore fans were seeing success and going mental about it. Since Football has gone all Global or "Corporate", which was around the late 90's, which coincidentally, is the same time United won the treble, which no doubt would have boosted their brand world wide, it has become ridiculous. So many plastics.
fans stand at games anyway, don't they, you see it at premier league grounds, look in the bundesliga, it works there.
I took my lad to see Swansea v Arsenal earlier on this month and we stood for the whole game. Had no choice, everyone ease was so we'd have seen nothing otherwise. Not a problem at all. I see no issue with standing at games as long as it is managed safely and they enclosures are not over populated. It should be quite simple really. I stand when I watch a game at home. Usually arms folded pacing the room!
Perhaps not, but I've been to both on a few occasions and the noise at the Etihad almost deafened me the first time.
Well thats him proven wrong......Old Trafford is ALWAYS EMPTY too, see? Not a single ass in any of those seats!! Whats going on?!
Even on matchday, I kept on an eye on it and no one turned up!!! Not even the players! You are aware those are still images and not live camera feeds right Meth??
