    Sunderland AFC are looking to break new ground online after appointing Aqueduct as the club's lead digital partner.

    The agency will provide a three-year plan including a new website to allow the football club to truly engage with fans everywhere.

    The new site and digital presence will be launched in time for the start of the new Barclays Premier League season in August.

    Chief executive of Sunderland AFC, Margaret Byrne, said: "From our first meeting, Aqueduct showed great commitment and enthusiasm for the club.

    "They came along to watch some of our games, putting themselves amongst our fans and sharing their experience.

    "Throughout the pitch process they displayed great diligence and attention to detail with a clear vision of the end goal.

    "We couldn't feel more positive about the club's digital future and our working relationship with Aqueduct."

    Aqueduct will lead the design, tone of voice and technology for the new site, working in conjunction with the club's digital media team.

    The exciting development, which is already under way, will see the club develop a unique collection of digital content to allow it to communicate with fans in its own, distinct way.

    Social media will also play an increased role as the club looks to establish a place firmly amongst sport's digital leaders.

    Aqueduct's managing director, Rob Oubridge, added: "We are delighted to have been selected as the club's digital partner.

    "Sunderland is a central beacon in the community and people are incredibly loyal to the football club. It is this commitment we want to recognise and reward.

    "It is important to understand your audience in real detail, so we will be taking a user-centred approach, involving Sunderland fans in the process."

    Aqueduct are already part of the sporting world as lead digital agency for Premier League champions Manchester City FC.

    In this role, they handle all digital capabilities, including the club's website, which has won a number of awards.

    The company also works with the RFU, the governing body of English rugby union.

    Another good move for SAFC on the business front.

    Over the last year or so we have got deals sorted with Kitbag, Adidas and now these which will surely generate more money for the club.

    This is what a lad posted on the SMB and a couple of lads posted and said they were going to as well...

    Been invited to a breakfast at the stadium on Monday. Ellis Short will be in attendance along with the national media. Fully expect it to be the official announcement on the sponsorship deal.

    It most likely will be the sponsorship deal as the away shirt is released on Monday. A lad on the smb seems to think it is Castrol, whoever it is I wouldn't be surprised if the stadium gets rebranded and thats what monday is about.

    IMO if that is the case and it generates more money for the club then great work by the club!

    Ah ok. I've seen them mentioned loads of times but had no idea, who or what they were.
