I actually thought Jovanovic was alright - like Dirk Kuyt but with more technique. He was very strong, powerful and had a decent left foot on him.

Strange how it feels ( at least for me) to have just kept Jova, JC, and Babel and just given them a run of games, especially as last year was seen as a sort of write off, they could have cemented a spot for all we know. Hindsight and all that though....

another one we have been linked with

GMT: Mauro Zarate is something of a C****s T***z lite, so it is no suprise to see him linked in this transfer window. The Mirror suggests Harry Redknapp's Spurs want him. Currently on loan at Lazio from Inter Milan, he's available for £10 million, but a short-term deal may be on. Agent Barry McIntosh told the Mirror: "There is a lot of interest in Mauro. Spurs are among the clubs interested in bringing him back to England. He made a positive impact at Birmingham previously and his reputation has continued to grow."

    keeps popping up...

Liverpool are in talks with Real Madrid over signing Real Madrid attacking midfielder Esteban Granero, says the Daily Mirror.

It's a shame with Babe because I felt he could have been special but he just couldn't build on the brief cameos from the bench.

I think I would be relatively happy if we managed to get Granero and Texiera (striker) in this window. We are definately lacking that final ball, foreign flair, class and guile especially since Suarez was suspended.

I think Granero would link up well with the likes of Suarez, gerrard, maxi, kuyt, Bellamy, but wondering if his service is what Carroll woudl thrive on ( through balls and the like). That again is more Downing's job but he is not really doing it. I know we all want and need a striker desperately but I can see why KK is waiting on this. If we go get a new striker, I see Andy Carroll crumbling instead of waking up and realizing he needs to start putting the graft in.

**** me sideways, I just realized it is the 24th, there isn't that much time left huh?

I understand what you're saying but I've always maintanied that Carroll was always teh wrong player for our system. Granero would have linked well with the likes of Maxi, Kuyt, Suarez and Bellamy and I think we would revert back to our pass and move style. Carroll needs to develop his all round game and he should be trying to fit into our system as opposed to changing our whole style and ethos to accomodate him.

I would like for us to loan him out so he can more game time and experience to help improve his confidence - he's still only 22 years old and he needs time.

With the introduction of Adam and Downing, we seem to be playing longer balls and pumping in more useless crosses which no one ever gets on the end of. I prefer a winger who cuts inside and gets closer to the box and pulls it back but then that relies on players actually getting into the box which we have been so poor at.

No no mate, I am agreeing with you, Carroll does not fit our system at all! What I was saying is that KK has backed him and backed him and backed him again, I just can't see him going out to get a striker, even though we should get one, especially one who thrives off the pass and move system, getting through balls, linking with the midfield etc.

Just don't see KK buying one this window, I think it will be Granero and maybe that Teixeira boy but other than that, just don't see it. Would love to see even two midfielders in M'Villa and Granero, creativity and some steel!

M'Vila would be a very good buy IMO. I hope Commoli can entice as he has the French contacts!

Would be good to see Raheem go out on loan somewhere, Swansea and perhaps Bolton would be a good shout. We've seen the effects of loaning youngsters in Wellbeck and Sturridge.

M'Villa would be awesome and a great purchase for me. If I had to choose between Swans and Bolton, 100% send him to Swansea, let him learn under dyer and sinclair and play the good stuff, keeping the ball on the deck.

GMT The UK media has been rife with reports that Liverpool are in talks to sign FC Groningen's highly-rated Uruguayan David Texeira and now the press in the striker's homeland, particularly newspaper Ovacion, claim a £9 million deal is imminent.

Negative ghostrider, this is a completely new dude. Apparently his path is eeirly similar to that of Suarez, who is also apprently being sounded out by Real and inter.

So are we after both? Have we just randomly pointed out a name from the phone book in order to find a better striker than Carroll so now we are on pursuit for any player called Texeira?

<ok> Swansea would do any of our youngsters a world of good judging by the way they play. If they went to Bolton however...they are currently a better side than Liverpool on current form. <laugh>

Rumour of the day - we've made an offer to Udinese for Mauricio Isla. Its a move which makes potential sense if we have. He's highly versitile, can play RB, RWB, RM, CM. Started out as a CF but his youth coach said he was too small. Apparently quick, he'd be a good versatile addition to the squad, a probable replacement to Dirk in the RM slot. Could also be used in front of the back 4 or as a box to box player...

I have seen a few Udinese games this year and he has done very well. Others from that team are Asamoah and the other African guy ( can't remember his name) have lightning pace down the sides and gave Arsenal a torrid time if my memory serves me correct. I wouldn't mind Isla and Granero in this window but still would like to see someone put A) ball in to B) net.

    Another rumour of the day...

Anyone know much about him? I've seen Valencia play a few times this season but never really focused on any of their players bar Benega.

He is good, I think another Uruguyan though ( seems to be our theme) might be wrong, maybe Chilean. Lots of pace and creativity, probably around 15 mil. You see Banega signe da new two-year contract? :(

If we buy Isla and Granero this window I WILL BE HAPPY

Isla is incredibly versatile, can fill in for Lucas now, and be a key squad player in the future who could push for the first team.

Granero will push Henderson and Adam in the midfield, for around £8million he would be as good a signing as Rafael Van Der Vaart.
