Mars had a terrible passage and didn't seem to handle Epsom that well.

I'd pick him over the winner in a rematch.

I think it will be seen as an average Derby in time, not awful like last years but not great either. I think it is a reasonably safe bet that there is believed at home to be little between all of the Coolmore runners yesterday, and as it's unlikely they have three exceptional horses it's probably also fair to say Ruler of the world is nothing special.

The record books will however state that Ruler of the World won the 2013 Derby, and that in any year is still a feat and so congratulations are clearly deserved, will he go on to capture the imagination? or future headlines? I don't think so.

The one who could however is Magician who I am really looking forward to seeing run again.

I am hoping to see a mile race between Magician, Dawn Approach and the horse that was a fast finishing third in the French guineas (sorry name escapes, but was the winner in my book), I would also like to throw Tornado in to be given another chance.

The front 3 home are slow animals. 12f will be their minimum trip and I wouldn't be surprised to see any of the 3 develop into gold cup horses. Ruler of The World is a Galileo half bro to Duke of Marm (a Danehill who wanted 10/12 f) Galileo Rock is a 3 parts brother to Sadlers Rock and Libertarian's damside looks the slow also.

How can you crab a horse that wins the Derby on his 3rd start? Must be the same crew that dissed Lammtarra.

I am not sure he is being crabbed too much Dancingbrave. I think the post was asking what do we think of the prospects of Ruler of the World on what's been seen so far. I was only stating his achievement in winning a Derby is credible but that he does not appear to be showing a superstar even at Ballydoyle. Michael Tabor appeared to agree with this when before the race he stated that the Fav was the main hope and that Mars was thought the most likely main hope until a short while ago. As you stated he is unbeaten and he can have done no more, he could go on to beat the best throughout the season and confirm himself an incredibly high class 3 year old if not a superstar, or he could come third in the Irish Derby, down the field in the King George and Arc and prove less so, but that's the opinion the post was inviting. These things are not personal, we are race watchers, form reviewers and fans, we form opinions that sometimes get proven correct and other times ridiculous, and we hopefully accept both outcomes happily.

I think people are also being careful not to run away with a horse this time after last season. At this stage last year it was not acceptable to bring into question Camelot's status as anything less than a superstar just waiting to be crowned. He had only just got back from handing out a beating to Bonfire and one poster was claiming he was going to be beating Frankel and everyone else next, even though the form book said nothing of the sort was likely. I mean let's be fair even Aiden has not stated he is the best they have ever had and he usually not restrained with that accolade when a horse is starting to look decent. Lets wait and see what transpires, but as I have already stated Ruler of the World is a Derby winner and that takes some doing in any year so well done to the horse, Ballydoyle, Coolmore and Ryan Moore, anything else is only an opinion and we want as many of those on here as we can as it makes debate.

Ruler of the World clearly learned alot from Chester, He won the Derby comprehensively. Travelled beautifully and quickened and maintained the advantage he couldn't have done much more. Hes clearly a very good horse, I mean any horse that wins the Derby on the back of 2 runs can't be half bad can he? Intello to My eye looks the best 3 year old middle distance horse after he cantered away with the French Derby - I was very impressed with that performance. He may have had first run but on the back of how unlucky he was in the French Guineas from a wide draw - He looks a fair horse. A match up between him, Dawn Approach and Magician over a mile would be intresting...

I agree Istabraq, it's Intello as the best horse so far this year for me as well. I was surprised after they brought him over here to win at Newmarket that they dropped him back to a mile as I was certain that was a trial run for our Derby.

I really like him a lot but I see us being spoilt this year as Magician looked superb and Dawn approach is better than we saw on Saturday. I am genuinely excited now about the rest of the flat season. We have three 8-10f horses with huge potential, an unbeaten Derby winner, and in the sprints we have the sprinter of Richard Hannons who won earlier in the season and looked high class, as well as the Fanshawe sprinter back to his best along with the three year old Reckless abandon going sprinting. Throw in some sunshine and it will be flat racing at it's best.

No mention for the girls Bluesky? Talent was very, very impressive in winning the Oaks.

I think she was Oddy but I wonder if she will repeat that performance. My initial feeling was that the others set the race up for a finisher and she was that finisher. I think Just the Judge is decent but having been beaten in our Guinea you have to suspect nothing outstanding.

I think Royal Ascot this year will throw up some good horses.

Inclined to agree with Bluesky, think maybe the rest went off too quick and didn't get home.

ROTW lowest rated Derby winner this century!

It will be very interesting to see how the horses come out of this Derby & what they do next. I think there were a lot of horses that could really improve: Libertarian could be anything, he is big & inexperienced yet ran on well, he will surely come on later in the season. Mars didn't get the run of the race,
. The winner himself is relatively unexposed & will come on. It could be a vintage year again.

I think that the jury is still out on The Derby. I cannot crab Ruler Of The World as he won fair and square but it remains to be seen whether he beat a moderate field. The acid test will be when he meets the older horses – assuming that they do not avoid them all season like they did with Camelot until the Arc.

The Prix Du Jockey Club winner, Intello, looked much more impressive over the ten furlongs at Chantilly but it is not inconceivable that he also dispatched moderate opposition. Every expectation that he will be targeted at the Arc, so expect another race and a mid season break followed by a return for the Prix Niel. That is the French way.

The jury is definitely out on the fillies. Talent won a rough Oaks and there is every possibility that the result may not be repeated in the Irish equivalent where a couple of the others will re-oppose. She handled Epsom, the others did not.
