Two strikers we were basically in for until they both rejected us and went elsewhere.

    Ruiz:

    £10.5million move
    2 goals in 16 apps

    Gervinho:

    £10.8million
    4 goals in 17 apps

    Ba:

    Free
    14 goals in 18 apps

Does anyone else feel that we got let off the hook with this one? Not only have they failed to live up to expectations (with Arsenal fans in particular criticising Gervinho's lack of finishing), but if we had even bought ONE of those players for £10mill, we may have never signed Cabaye, Santon or even Ba himself.

Bullet, dodged! Although I think both would have done better at SJP. Gervinho would have had a team built around him, and already knew Cabaye, and Ruiz doesn't really fit Fulham, I don't think. I also reckon Ruiz is the player to watch for the rest of the season - his occasional flashes of brilliance are becoming more frequent.

Absolutely. But then I suppose you can never tell how a player may have fitted in with a different team. Ruiz also was a last minute thing right? So he wouldn't have ruled out Cabaye, Santon or Ba at all.

Ruiz looked classy against Arsenal the other night, showed some flashes of brilliance plus he's a bit of a tank. Gervinho is just another 'winger' who is quick and agile, but cannot pass, cross or shoot. Premier league seems to be filled with these Gervinho type player at the moment. What happened to proper wingers??

Ruiz is a beast at the lob though, I reckon he'll come good for them next season if they stick with him. Definitely not worth 10m though. And as for Gervinho he's about as effective as Obertan for triple the price. So if you look at it that way we got the same amount of forehead (their only attribute) with 66% off.

It's unfair to compare them to Ba as they aren't the same type of player, plus haven't been deployed as strikers at all a lot of the time. Ruiz has been played as a left/right midfielder often for Fulham, and Gervinho is more like a wing forward. They are both clearly talented players but Gervinho misses a LOT of chances, he is probably one of the worst finishers I've ever seen in the PL, Jigsaw Mk II so in that regard I'd agree. Ruiz has scored two lovely goals but we need to see more of it from him.

i have never rated gervinho since he came to arsenal he looks another head down and run player, ruiz looked fab against arsenal, i would of loved it, if he signed. After a slow start he is beginning to look superb

Agree with most here. Neither has played as an out and out striker like Ba. Neither playing in a quality side like ours either <whistle>

I was buzzing when we went in for Ruiz but you'd have to say no one in their wildest dreams culd've imagined Ba being as epic as he has been.

Ruiz will be quality I think, Gervinho is to the left wing what Walcott is to the right - fast....and erm....did I say fast already?

The thing with Ba isn't just that we have an amazing striker (obviously we do) but that we got him for free. Had WHU stayed up, he'd have been in the £15-£20m price range (due to injury worries and relative inexperience) but on a free he is surely the best buy of the season!

Ruiz is class and has showed glimpses of it. Gervinho is a donkey. Neither are number 9s so its no surprise Demba has outscored them.

I'm afraid I massively disagree here. I think they've both shown they're quality players...

Face it.. How good would it be to replace Obertan for Gervinho/Ruiz!

Yep, Gervinho is awesome and impressed me most of the time when I have seen him play. He is more of a setter upperer than a goalscorer.

My point is that, if we had signed Gervinho or Ruiz for a bit £10mill payout, how could it have influenced our future transfers?

Would we have signed Cabaye or even Ba?

We could have ended up with one player who isn't as good as people had expected (neither of them are) and missed out on players like Ba who are now so vital to our team.
