Its not supposed to be that bad anymore.

Interesting you've not mentioned anywhere in Southampton.

    Now why could that be?

They pay lip service to it, and the scale of the social housing that ends up getting built as part of these developments always seems to get scaled back, and yet still somehow gets through planning.

One of my daughters lived in London for a few years and was a health visitor, she applied for every new build site going, as a key worker, but never got a sniff.

Most of the new developments around our way all have social housing on them. The downside to this is that the central county council can over-ride local needs and move people from 20, 30 miles away, like Luton into the housing which means local families miss out and have to move away.

    There are other downsides.

An old mate spent over half a million on a 5 bed detached house and now wakes up to a council van full of traffic cones parked opposite.

Not the view he was anticipating when he thought he'd made his final move.

Every City has it's 'rough areas' ... I grew up on the "Saff" (Saffron Lane) in Leicester ... which had a pretty grim reputation but was actually OK growing up there ... others of note were Braunstone, New Parks, Eyres Monsell and Beaumont Leys ... all of them sprawling council estates ... now live in rural Hertfordshire and have kids with posh accents who take the piss out of the old man for his pronunciation of words like 'bath' 'grass' and 'laugh' <cheers>

Where are they meant to live then? London is completely unaffordable for ordinary working people.

Most of London seems dodgy these days.

    And another one.

A young man has been fatally stabbed in Forest Gate in east London, police have said.

Officers were called to Chestnut Avenue at around 10.50pm on Monday.

The victim, believed to be 18 years old, died just before 11.30pm.

Police said his family were still being informed and that formal identification and a post-mortem would be arranged.

There have been no arrests so far but any witnesses are urged to call police on 101.
