I wanted to give the forgotten man Flitney a bit of credit. He in my book has been superb. I find it so good to have a safe pair of hands behind the defence nowadays. I said when we signed Julian (prat) that he's just a shot stopper and gas nothing else to his game. I live near Stevenage and they all have their misgivings about it. But I think Flitney has been awesome, he can kick and distribute brilliantly, some of those saves he made today were unreal. I don't think he gets enough credit, and if you were at the game today you would've seen gazzaniga, hare and Frampton race towards him. They are football people, there not stupid, they now like you and I that he had a great game. My MOTM today. Superb, Ross Flitney!
stotfoldgill - it is great to have a thread recognising Ross Flitneys superb display, however, it certainly has not gone unnoticed by the Gills fans, everyone is discussing what a fantastic game he had, making him their chosen man of the match, I even mentioned him in my match report. I sit in the Medway Stand and had a clear view for two of Flitneys saves, I really thought that Oxford had scored (could not miss) on both occasions, only for the safe hands of Flitney to pull off some truly remarkable saves. Certainly not the 'forgotten man'. ............................................................................................................ ps. if you had made this a minimum of a 200 word document, I could have made a few alterations to promote it and get more recognition, so Flitney if he reads the sport media, knows how much we are praising him. Come on Gills fans help me out with these threads.
Flitney was outstanding yesterday but he has been good all season. In particular he is not flashy, the best attribute for a good goalie, but that means his contribution is often unrecognised. I just hope he is still a hero after the next two tough away games. I am convinced the sponsors select the man of the match in the bar before the game based on what has happened the week before.
to be fair i think MOM was a tough decision, lets be honest some of the runs kufour made were superb and espically given he was up to on his own for a lot of that game. plus the defence that played the full 90mins looked very solid, especially the central 2. however flitney in my mind hasn't had a bad game yet really, maybe his only real mistake was the pen he gave away and maybe the chip back out to richards yest. apart from that i can't really think of much. player of the season so far.
All sounds very encouraging - a solid GK is very important when persuing promotion from div 3 - Roycie and Big Jim were both crucial in securing our 96 and 09 promotions
And to think that almost everyone on this forum wanted Gazzaniga to start the season, and said Flitney isn't good enough. Where's that egg?
I think that's because of the criticism that Dover fans levelled at him when he left, it gave our fans doubts about him. But of course, he wasn't playing behind League players, as he is now,so he was bound to be exposed more.
