Liam Rosenior: I planned to end my career at Hull City, but I hold no grudges By Hull Daily Mail | Posted: June 27, 2015 please log in to view this image NO BITTERNESS: Former Hull City star Liam Rosenior. Liam Rosenior begins a fresh challenge on Monday morning when he reports for the start of pre-season training with Brighton and Hove Albion. There is excitement at the dawn of a new adventure. The ambitious Seagulls hold aspirations for promotion under Chris Hughton and, off the field at least, everything is in place for bigger things. Rosenior could not resist. A three-year deal signed on Tuesday has taken him over 200 miles south to the Amex Stadium with the defender licking his lips. It makes a change from licking his wounds. Amid the eagerness to get started with Brighton is the realisation a new season will not begin in the colours of Hull City. Steve Bruce's surprising decision to release Rosenior in the wake of City's relegation from the Premier League stung and scuppered plans to end his playing days at the KC Stadium. Rosenior stresses there is no resentment or animosity. "Football moves on," he says. But there is still room for regrets. "The plan was always to end my career at Hull but the fact I didn't was not in my hands," said Rosenior. "I had a great time with the manager. I think he's a great manager but you'd have to ask him his reasons for me not staying. "I had the contract offered and then it was taken away. From my point of view we were having negotiations and were very close. I wasn't asking for the moon. "I never said to the club I was turning down an offer. I never would have done. We were talking and I wanted to be there. "For one reason or another the manager decided I wasn't going to be part of his future and that's his job. I respect that and wish him all the best." Rosenior was in discussions over an extended deal as far back as December but the original offer tabled was withdrawn 48 hours after City's relegation. Like Paul McShane, another fans' favourite ushered towards the exit, the full-back's abrupt release felt like no way to end a stay of such distinction. Since arriving as a free agent in October 2010, Rosenior became an instrumental figure in a ride that took the Tigers to the Premier League, FA Cup final and Europe. "I still reflect on my time with Hull in a positive way," he said. "It ended in a sad way but overall it was a great period in the history of the club. "I take a lot of pride in playing my part. If you look at where the club was when I joined, it was an incredible journey. Something I'll always remember. "The promotion (in 2012-13) was my highlight. Obviously getting to the FA Cup final was fantastic but the promotion was what started everything off at the club. "I joined the club when it was in the Championship relegation zone so to then get promoted within two seasons was a fantastic achievement for us all. "But I have to move on now and look to make the next chapter of my career just as successful." Such was Rosenior's fondness for City that he took to penning an open letter to fans, published in the Mail last month. "I have a lot of respect with the fans and I wish them all the success in the future," he said. "The reaction I had when people found out I was leaving was what compelled me to write the letter in the first place. "On the back of that the reaction I got was something I really didn't expect. It's been overwhelming. My kids are obviously sad to be leaving the area and wife as well. Maybe one day we'll be back in the area again and might have something to do with the club in the future." Someone, in particular, certainly hopes so. Rosenior's grandmother, a long-time resident of the Newland Avenue area of Hull, wants him back. He added: "She's a bit upset obviously but she'll still be supporting the team. "She was there before I came and will be after I'm gone. Hopefully she can be watchingPremier League football again soon." Rosenior's ideal outcome for the new season with be Brighton going up as champions, with City the runners-up. He was sold not only by the Seagulls grand visions but also the chance to keep on a coaching path that began with the Tigers' academy last season. "I had interest from a few clubs, some in the Championship, some in the Premier League, but the ambition and infrastructure at Brighton was the perfect fit for me," he said. "The manager has got a great track record and hopefully I can create a few more memories at a new football club. "I want to continue my coaching down there and help out with the academy. That was one thing that was massive for me. They said straight away I could go down and help with the academy and that's exactly what I wanted to hear." http://www.hulldailymail.co.uk/Liam...l-City-hold/story-26774270-detail/story.html?
Top, top bloke. There's not many like that in pro football. We've been remarkably short-sighted on this one. You could see a definite career path: player, player-coach, coach, manager. Gone now that. Hope it doesn't come back to bite us.
"The plan was always to end my career at Hull but the fact I didn't was not in my hands," said Rosenior. Rosenior was in discussions over an extended deal as far back as December but the original offer tabled was withdrawn 48 hours after City's relegation. Sad to see him go as everyone else is but those two lines from above sum it up for me.
He was pictured with his daughter before her prom & one of his kids was wearing a Brighton shirt & the other a city shirt! ( well done son! Once a tiger always a tiger )
Allam out! Steve Bruce isn't blind or stupid, he could see the worth of Liam, but as with Macca he was seen as a fans favourite and just another way of upsetting those fans.
Allams fault isn't it, I agree entirely, blaming Bruce or Bruce Jr. is ridiculous, just wish Rosy had signed when offered
Well it's normal to have some negotiating time on a contract. If they just said sign now or else or just decided to withdraw something they would normally have kept open for longer then I guess Bruce didn't want him enough. And he never bothered playing him a lot.
Bench warmer then maybe coach. Great. We need to put together a team that's a decent foundation if we get promoted. He had plenty of time to sign a new deal too. Let's see how much Brighton play him. Either way he's done well to get a 3 year deal. Good luck to him, I hope he makes it as a coach and returns on that basis. This deal is best for both sides.
Although I don't trust anything the two ****s say, I don't think they'll have much interest in who stays or goes and would leave it to Bruce. They've got far more important stuff than actual football matters to worry about. We are funny with contracts though. First thing Bruce did when he came in was give Andy Dawson a new deal, he thought it was a disgrace that we'd been stringing him along so long with the promise of a contract but no offer. Chester was promised one which took literally years to materialise. Davies was moaning about it last season and all other evidence points to him being the ultimate model professional. Now Quinn, Rosenior and McShane. Loads of players seems to have an issue with contract offers at City.
He didn't play much, but that was because Elmo is a far better wing back. Will we never play four at the back? Because if we do, Rosie was easily our best right back, in fact he was easily our best left back.
He wouldn't have been a bench warmer if SB hadn't stuck so much to 3-5-2/5-3-2. How many other managers pick a lin-up which wins a match AND THEN PICK EXACTLY THE SAME LINE-UP/FORMATION TO FACE THE NEXT TEAM?
To be fair, they've had since December to sign the offered contract which they deemed not good enough. None of us know what was offered but if they wanted to stay they should of signed
None of us know. He may have been asked to wait until the end of the season before signing the contract. I'm sure if he was asked, he'd have waited. For the contract to be valid both parties have to sign. Yes he could have signed but it would still have required Ehab's signature. Like me, you have no idea if Ehab would have signed it even if Rosenior had.
Find it strange that he was offered a new deal in December, then 2 week's after relegation "you out the door " could be wrong on this, but maybe, just maybe somebody been whispering in SB's ear, who came into the club around December, January time, that might have some influence in decision making regard's playing staff, Phelan is the answer, a lot of people have been quick to criticize SB over this but maybe Phelan should shoulder some of the blame.
