Quite surprised as I think he could have played a role at the world cup as an impact type. His days as first choice are long gone. Where does he rank among England greats? I wish he'd played with better players, I think I may have judged him too harshly at times. Just frustrated the **** out of me by banging them in all through qualifiers and then falling flat at tournaments.

Well his wife is pregnant with their fourth so perhaps he's got other things to occupy all these meaningless international breaks which **** up the flow of each season. Probably the right time as he's no longer first choice.
