Rooney

Discussion in 'Liverpool' started by Red Hadron Collider, Oct 12, 2012.

  1. I think any less and it would have been bad. I hoped for more but got what I expected, the usual disappointment. There was a lot of players on the England team that could do with some goals to their name too.

They seemed to get our problem from last season with substitutes... Why can't Carroll come on for someone other the Mr Cross...??? <doh>

Ashley Cole for captain anyone? Fine footballer, team player, leads by example and excellent on twitter!! Failing that, Kevin Pietersen for harmonious relationships in the dressing room!!

Well our two form strikers are Defoe and Lambert.

    Defoe on a yellow.

For some reason only known to that baboon in charge, Lambert isn't even in the squad.

Hey PGF, would you mind taking your unreasonable bullshit back to your own board?

Its just that I really don't want to read it.

I'd say if Hodgson sticks with Rooney as his captain it's a step up from where you guys were at before. All of the debate on who the captain should and shouldn't be is just an unnecessary distraction. At least with Rooney you have a player who will start every major game if fit for the next 5 plus years. That's something that you can't guarantee Gerard now, let alone a few years from now.

There are a few captains out there that actually do mate. In fact the Barca midfield have been known to converse and change their plans during the game, Keane certainly had an impact on work rate discipline ect. It is on the captain, Rooney is not that sort of chap.

Well now, you wouldn't be saying that cos he plays for City now would you?

I mean, when Gerrard comes back Rooney won't be captain anyways, captain against the mighty San Marino. If this was say Spain and not San Marino even without Gerrard present Rooney would not have been selected captain imo.

Hopefully having the armband will have an impact on this conduct on the field at least, can see why hodgson gave it to him.

And your saying Gerrard is the type of captain to come up with and implement new tactics during a match?

Or that he's a Keane type captain?

I don't see what Gerrard brings to the table as a captain that Rooney won't. At Liverpool he has the respect of being a club legend but he's no leader. The only thing he can do is try and lead by example and you'd have to look a long way to find someone harder working or more passionate than Rooney.

Plus I really don't see Gerrard being in the team in 2 years. Squad yes, but automatic starter no.

Gerrard constantly talks to the players, giving advice etc. Proven in the Liverpool documentary, where he is always helping the younger players and even telling Lucas what to do etc. He is very much a manager to be. I agree though, he won't be involved after the next world cup, same with Lampard, Terry and Cole too obviously. So, someone has to be!
I personally don't think Rooney will make a good captain, but despite saying that, I think it will give him some responsibilities and actually make him perform for his country.

Gerrards way past it, so far gone its terminal so he will only be a temporary captain. Nothing against Gerrard but thats how it is.

Rooney is a much better choice than Hart because of where he will be on the pitch, all over it. GK rarely make great captains as they are so far back and cant do alot of the things captains can. Plus they are leaders of their own domain meaning they dont need to be captain.

If you watch United (which I doubt) then you'd notice Rooney on the touchline listening to SAF at some point during most matches. When the manager needs someone to communicate with the rest of the team more often than not its Rooney he turns to. I reckon sooner or later he'll be United captain and SAF has been grooming him for it for a number of years.

Probably sooner actually with the injuries and age of other senior players like Rio, Vidic, Giggs and Scholes.

Was a really young team played by England last night and that team/subs should have been the one featuring at the last WC imo. It was time to build for the future and a lot of the key players at the last WC are the past.
