Am I the only one who is sick of the constant Ronaldo love in? He has not even been that good! I may understand if he was English, but why do they all want him to do well? Really pissing me off! Mini rant over
I love that the only memory of when I've seen him live - the 2-0 win over Man United in 2005 - is a shot from outside of the area that went well wide, followed by a sarcastic cheer. He really didn't hac a good game then, but nor did anyone else. The most annoying thing about the commentators and Ronaldo is or appears that he can't have a bad game yet not so popular players are under rated by commentarors despite having a good game.
It really kills me, he has a shot that goes about 10m wide but instead of saying its s*** they just say how amazing he is. He can do no wrong in their eyes! Would love England to play them in the final and beat them with Ronaldo missing a pen. Won't happen though. Portugal will be out by then
My only memory of him in that game was when he got tackled--cleanly I might add--by Huckerby. Almost got as a big a cheer as the goals.
It's also very annoying when good players are completely ignored, like Błaz-somethingorother-ski, the Polish player, and people are saying how amazing Bendtner is, when really he has been average.
Ronaldo has been average but the header he scored was awesome. He was so far away when the ball was delivered, it was actually a **** cross coz it was nowhere near anyone but Ronaldo made it a good cross but getting there and putting a good head on it as well. I want him to play terrible but he does bring moments of magic to that portugal side
Whether you like it or not, Ronaldo is the second best player in the world. Sure, he's not perfect, but neither is Messi, or anyone for that matter.
Disagree with that, maybe the actual header itself wasn't but the run was awesome. This is what he does, he had absolutely no right whatsoever to get to that ball before the defender but still did. If you see his position when the ball is crossed to where he actually meets the ball its at least 10 yards away in the matter of about a second. No other player in the world makes last ditch delayed runs for headers like that and thats why he appears to be so good in the air.
I can accept that he's a talented footballer and a bit of a winker, but does he have to be so ****ing good looking? It's so unfair!
In a way Ronaldo is the ultimate in rags to riches stories. His father was a gardener for the council on the island of Madeira, and by all accounts not the sharpest tool in the box by some distance - he named his son after Ronald Reagan.
tipsy, i could not agree more about ronaldo. don't get me wrong, i think he is a phenomenal footballer but apart from the match against the netherlands he's been extremely average in relation to his ability, yet the commentators have drooled from one eulogy to another. and how annoying was jonathan pearce last night?! i nearly threw my beer through my telly, but thankfully i didn't... i wouldn't want to waste my beer on him!
I'd like to see the commentators' reaction to a player like Dempsey for example if he did exactly the same as Ronaldo. I bet their reaction would be completely different. To the media it is more about who they are than what they do.
He is a brilliant footballer but hes also the biggest tosser in football. After the game he said 'the most important thing was I scored a goal' - no, the most important goal was your team got through knob. His pace and effort surpasses Messi's but the ball sticks to Messi's feet, he can do things with the ball that no-one has ever done before and brings the team into it. More importantly Messi doesn't spend most of the match having tantrums like a two year old and yelling at a teammate everytime they dare to misplace a pass. You have to wonder whether Portugal might be a better team without him because take Ronaldo out of the game at the moment and you've beaten them.
yeah, but take ronaldo out of that portugal team and they wouldn't even qualify - they are so reliant on him.
Exactly. He scores 60 for Real because Real would beat every international team on the planet. He has better players around him. Portugal have Pepe as well who is a useful defender but apart from that they are ordinary. Ronaldo has to work very hard to score for Portugal but they line them up for him at Real. I do agree about him as a person. He is an egotistical twat who struts about looking like a 20's matinee idol. Great footballer. Great ego.
I dunno, I think they've also got the best full-backs in the tournamet, and I rate that Moutinho bloke as well, but I do know what you mean. I actually disagree with the OP here, I don't think any individual has particularly stood out thus far but I would say there haven't been many who have more of an impact than Ronaldo - three goals so far and he led them out of the 'Group of Death'. I thought a bit the opposite from some of you last night, there were a couple of headers that he that were incredibly difficult and that tosser Pearce was saying "he should have done a lot better" or "he should have that one away" when most footballers wouldn't have even got a touch on it. Can't stand the bloke but there is no denying he is a phenomenally talented footballer. The thing that did my head in most last night was every time they spoke of Meireles and kept calling him MerrelESH with a ridiculous emphasis on the SH at the end. Why don't we accept we are English, we have an English accent and should therefore pronounce it as it looks to us, it's almost as irritating as when Motson used to go on and on about Glenn Hysen/Hussain from back in the 80's
http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/socce...nine-old-cancer-treatment-042054954--sow.html A real tosser. He has changed as a footballer since he left United. He has a much improved attitude and leads his country well. Sure he shows signs of petulance and that is still sad to see, but I find myself actually liking him now, especially after his donation to the boy's treatment.
I have been impressed more by Joao Moutinho, Miguel Veloso and Raul Meireles this tournament then Ronaldo. Them three really dicatate the middle of the park brilliantly. To be fair I didn't watch last nights game, he might have had a stinker last night but I also like the look of Gebre Selassie for Czech, looks a very handy right back.
