That is sad news, Cottager. Brown was the captain of the first Fulham side that I remember, Macdonald's team that won promotion from the old 3rd division (league one today) and came within a whisker of getting into the old first division the following season. He'll be sadly missed, I'm sure. I hope there's going to be a minute silence on Thursday night in honour of him, it would be entirely appropriate.

Thought you'd all be interested, I was at Bournemouth's cup game with West Brom last night, and there was a minute's applause in memory of Roger (who, as I'd forgotten, also played for the Cherries). It was shared with the Red Arrows pilot who died at the weekend, and was warmly respected by all concerned. Funnily enough, the photo of Roger Brown that they put up on the electronic scoreboard was one with him in a Fulham shirt! I'm not sure why no one at AFCB could find a photo of him playing for them. I might post on the Bournemouth game later - it was good to see a Roy Hodgson team with two banks of four, shuffling across the pitch as Bournemouth swapped the ball from flank to flank looking for a way through. No sign of Gera, who I think was serving the last game of his suspension for his farewell sending off for us.
I was Roger's friend and son-in law to be for the last five years of his short life. It's great to read these tributes to Roger and see how well thought of he was. I will be running the Birmingham Great Run on October 23rd in honor of Roger, in order to raise money for St Giles Hospice - the only place Roger really felt well looked after during the last months of his life. I'm certainly not an athlete and I've only ten weeks to prepare. My objective is to run some of the course, crawl the rest and hopefully make it to the end!!! This is a real challenge for me. It would be great if some of you would consider donating so that we can make a worthwhile donation to St Giles Hospice in Rogers name. If you would like to donate you can do so at: http://www.justgiving.com/Peter-Drakeley Thanks, Peter
