I rate Gary Neville as a pundit. I thought he would be rediculously biased to wards Man U but he comes across impartial and gives an insigt as to what actually goes on in the dressing room at half time. He also comes across as tactically astute, like Andy Gray used to. I always found it interesting and used to use it to try and improve my own positioning on the pitch but to no avail! RE Savage. He is a knob. That is all.
Agree that Neville is an excellent pundit, brings a lot of good points forward and really knows what he's talking about. Can't stand him when he's commentating though, that should be reserved for Ray Wilkins.
In reply to the comments on here regarding Savage I decided to look at an old webpage on the BBC and the pundits predictions and the comments of many for the Championship. Guess who they were predicting - Leicester, Forest, WHU. What do they know? So the moral is when it comes to predicting the Euro 2012 Champions not to take the pundits predictions too serioiusly but go with your own convictons. I have a feeling that either the Ukraine or Russia will go a long way in the competition. Don't be surprised to see Spain fall short as their players may well be tired after the European exertions of their clubs - 2 in the Champions League and 3 in the Europa Cup.
Savage always tips against saints I haven't seen one clip where he said that he fancies us to win. Such a knob honestly, personally the best pundit is le tiss no seriously there aren't any.
If Greece live up to expectations then two of Russia, Czech Rep and Poland will advance, so I'm sure one of them will do well. I like France personally. On pundits, everyone has their favourites really. I think Gary Lineker would be difficult to replace.
Savage is friends with Jason Roberts so I'm hardly surprised he thinks that. And anyway, who cares what he says? He gets paid to have an opinion on Football, that's his job in various capacities, he can think what he likes. At the end of the day, it isn't going to affect our players going about doing THEIR job.
I can't see Ukraine doing much, they are quite shocking at times...Russia have got a chance though and I agree with you about Spain,I think they will find it hard this summer as teams have found a way to play against them. Any team can win the Euro's...
Surely Ukraine won't get through a group containing England, France and Sweden? Poland's team looks rather unimpressive as well so I wouldn't be surprised if both the hosts are knocked out in the group stage. I can see Russia giving it a good go, but other than that I think it'll be the obvious contenders in the latter stages. England have a great chance of making the semis if we can avoid Spain in the quarter finals. Having said that, I do agree that Spain could falter so maybe we could even be the ones to knock them out.
I don't really see why people are getting so upset about this. Apart from the fact that his prediction was clearly a few games ago its a fair prediction to make, we just don't like it because we don't want to hear that there's a chance we might miss out. But realistically it's still a three horse race with a lot of points still up for grabs and any one of us could go on a winning run similar to Readings recent efforts (8 or 9 consecutive wins). As a saints fan and being so close to all that goes on with our club it seems unfathomable that with our leader, players, the team spirit and mentality we have that we could miss out... but mathmatically its easily possible and so to the pundits (that don't follow the league) we are just another team. Let's just hope that we prove them wrong!
I initially quite liked Savage's opinionated views but they quickly started to grate. Whenever he is on 606 there have been instances where he has been quite rude and offensive as well electing to argue against popular opinion. As far as his predictions are concerned, he is obviously entitled to his opinion and I must admit that until the mid-week games I would have thought that he had a stron argument. For me, the games at home to Reading and portsmouth will be very tricky. I expect both to be draws (If Pompey get an away win this afternoon, I teally think they will have a very good chance of avoiding the drop and a game against Saints is one where the rule book should be thrown out of the window.) I also think the away games at Boro and Peterborough will be tough but, having said that, I couldn't have predicted the two recent away wins. Saints are the form side at the moment and West Ham will, in my opinion, bottle it.
