No, but I'm sure most serious football fans will have heard of Boca Juniors and River Plate, at least.
Reminds me of this ****: please log in to view this image So was I, until the bombshell of them finishing in the top four this season.
Never heard of them. Now I think about it, I couldnt tell you the name of any teams outside of Europe with the exception of a couple of yank ones. Deffo no S American ones. Why would I have??
I can name quite a few. As I said before, I don't expect everyone to have heard of every club in South America, but to not know of River Plate and Boca Juniors surprises me. I'd also expect people to have heard of Sao Paulo and Santos in Brazil.
Yes, but they were selecting referees who they saw as favourable or as being more prone to persuasion, which is not entirely dissimilar.
I've heard of most teams in the world that are part of soccermanager.com, before that maybe not every one but definitely the big Argie teams like River Plate, Boca Juniors are another one aren't they, sometimes get confused between different countries, like trying to remember where Velez Sarsfield is right now, or even if I just made that name up in my head!
They werent 'selecting' they were requesting - which is EXACTLY what Alex Ferguson and Mark Hughes have done publicly.
Some people take things a bit too seriously, can't think many of our fans topped themselves when we went down!
I'm surprised there's anyone on a football forum who hasn't heard of River Plate and Boca Juniors, they're two of the most famous clubs in the world. I would have thought that even those who don't know the clubs, would know their names, due to the players that came from those clubs to Europe - Tevez, Riquelme, Maradonna, Mascherano, Higuain, D'Alessandro, Cambiasso, Saviola, Aimar, Pablo Ãngel, Crespo etc.
Seriously, no. I spent 8 months in the Falklands too! I am aware of the names of some Argie cities, but their footy clubs? Nope. Well now, sure, yesterday, no, tomorrow probably not again!
Oh, forgot to type this yesterday and Im amazed noone else has... Sooo, they were sunk by the Belgrano eh?
Just a mention for Deportiva La Coruna too, who were relegated from La Liga. They won the League in 2000 and only narrowly missed out on the Champions League Final in 2004.
