Sad news. Finney was a bit before my time and comes from that relatively innocent era that we're unlikely to ever witness in our life time. As I understand it Sir Tom was a great ambassador to the game and will be missed by many. RIP Sir Tom Finney.
Sorry, looks like I got that one wrong. I never heard of that gentleman before. Just read his story and he was obviously one hell of an individual. Rest in peace

To be fair I think that the legend that is afforded to Sir Tom is only limited to English fans. Tom Finney played in an era before most of us on this board were born. As great as he was, it's difficult for an English person to have empathy or an infinity with a player they have never seen play let alone someone from a country other than England, and we have many on here. Fair play to Sword's to even acknowledge him and apologise after mistaking him for someone else.
One of the legends of the post-war era, I remember as a kid his was one of the names many up and coming young players might be compared to and when you look at the tributes you wonder what he would have been worth in this day and age. A one-club man like Nat Lofthouse at Bolton and he could simply be 'Mr Preston', a true great of the game. RIP...
I'm only really aware of him through the written word and some grainy old footage, but his reputation is impeccable. RIP Sir Tom
