http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/28844131 I know its been mentioned on the Breakfast Debate, but here's our Leeds United tribute to the great man ... RIP JAG
My memories are of late sixties onwards, watching the teleprinter and then listening to James Gordon read the classified results. Seemed a lifetime ago and was oe of our only sources of info to Leeds stuff here in Ireland in those days. Cost of air travel was daft then. RIP Mr Gordon
In the 70's I was in the far East, Middle East and In Germany looking at Russian troop movements and Chinese communists etc. I just loved getting the results broadcast every week as it was a bit like being at home, especially when JAG came on-air. Not only the BBC had him but BBC World, BFBS, Voice of America and plenty of others had him syndicated. I still hear his voice today and was sad last year when he was forced to retire. So sad that he only got a few more months, but on Saturday and every Saturday when listening in to the results, I will always think of him. Legend
Totally agree. As a kid in the 60s I daren't utter a word during the Classified Results because my da was writing the scores down on the Saturday paper to check his coupon. Never did any good, but JAG's measured tones are what memories are made of. RIP.
