Wild punt, but Ferguson has just told the older Ferdinand that Smalling and Jones are above him in playing with Vidic in centre defence according to SSN. Do you think he might fancy playing alongside his brother back in London? And yes I know he's lost a yard of pace and is injury prone, but on a free.....?
Blimey, only a handful of games in the Premiership and most of you are turning your noses up at Rio Ferdinand!!
Fitz Hall, Danny Gabidon or Rio Ferdinand? Come on fellas, it won't happen but if it did I'd take him in a shot.
My thoughts exactly Col. Does anybody remember my thread ' Is anyone good enough to wear the hoops? ' just before the last transfer window. We were rejecting all kinds of players that we would of never dreamed of 12 months ago. Rio? ...No thanks! Pavylchenko? Erm..No!! Saviola? ... Not for us thanks. etc, etc etc. Does anyone remember the 75/76 squad and what type of players they were, and at what stage of their careers they were in?
Not sure if that is a rhetorical question 999, but I do and I get your point - no kids and a couple of grandads in Webb and McLintock.
Yeah I'd take Rio. And while we're at it, I'd take Les Ferdinand, The Archduke Franz Ferdinand and Ferdinand II of Aragon. Ya know, complete the set.
You forgot Kane,Anton and Rio's cousin, only 19 and playing like a demon for Southend this year.I have to admit i've seen little snippets of him and he looks like he could be a superstar.I reckon we should get in there now before someone else snaps him up,and Jordan Rhodes while were at it!
Just about every great Centre-Back partnership has had one or both players aged 30 or over. Of course the is always an exception, ( can't think of any off the top of my head,) but here are five winning CB partnerships.... QPR 1976 Webb 30 McLintock 37 Barca 2011 Puyol 33 Pique 24 AC Milan 2006 Nesta 31 Maldini 39 England 66 Charlton 32 Moore 25 Liverpool 86 Hansen 31 Lawrenson 29 The only main exception to these were the Brasil 1970 WC Winning team ( exceptional ) both CBs were 28. This of course is a generalisation, but I hope you get my drift...
Obviously Ferdinand is/was a top class player. We need as many top players as we can get our hands on, however, his wages (reports est 150,000 a week plus) are way out of our league. We could pay 3 top defenders for the same money. Its not a question of, he is not good enough for us, the question is do we want another injury prone players on huge wages in our team/squad. For me there are better, less risky, less expensive options out there ie Bassong, Ridgewell etc
Agree with 999 If the option was there for Rio to play at QPR and organize our defence then it would be outstanding IMO He would take the captains armband also in my book he is a leader It's a great thought I hope it happens
Rio could also teach the youngsters a thing or wo. when we signed Wilkins, he was 32 and stopped playing when he was 39. He def helped in the development of Sir LEs and a few of the 90's team. If we cold get him on a pay as you play deal....
Thats a current contract , he would never be able to demand thos sort of wages now. He could be a real coup for us and that would be a strong back 4. Can't see it happening though but thought the same when bartons name was being banded around 4 months ago.
