    CARLOS Cuellar will be the only fresh face at the Academy of Light on Wednesday when Sunderland begin their pre-season regime. Cuellar has been Sunderland’s sole recruit of the summer transfer window so far after Martin O’Neill pounced to land the Spanish defender on a Bosman deal last week. But Sunderland remain a distance away from adding further recruits to the squad, with the Black Cats not thought to be close to tying up a deal for anyone on the radar. That will mean a familiar look to the party which gathers at Cleadon this week for the start of pre-season training, with the only notable absentees Euro 2012 participants John O’Shea, Seb Larsson, Keiren Westwood and James McClean, along with Stephane Sessegnon and Ahmed Elmohamady – both involved in African Cup of Nations qualifiers during the summer. O’Neill will not be panicking at the lack of new signings though, with the Sunderland boss renowned for taking careful consideration over incoming players and still facing almost six weeks before the opening Premier League game at Arsenal. A striker remains at the top of O’Neill’s wishlist, with Wolves hitman Steven Fletcher still a target.

    £2.5m is a disgracefully low fee for a player like Richardson. Well done West Ham if true.

    the papers don't have a clue

    in todays Sunderland Echo it says he wants away with Everton, Reading, QPR and West Ham all chasing him

    if he stays then it will be good for the club as he can play in a number of positions, if he goes and we get around 2-3m then great as he is entering the last year of his contract

    [h=1]Richardson set for talks[/h]Sunderland, 10:07, July 9, 2012
    Sunderland boss Martin O'Neill is set for talks with Kieran Richardson on his return to pre-season training this week.
    The versatile defender is entering the final year of his contract at the Stadium of Light and O'Neill would like to know if he is going to sign a new one or do they need to cash in on him this summer.
    There would be no shortage of takers for the player who was wanted by Arsenal last winter and Everton, West Ham and Reading are all thought to be monitoring the situation closely.
    O'Neill would like to keep Richardson but he is thought to be unsure of whether he wants to stay or not.

    Best we all wait, and not get caught up too much with newspaper talk. As for Richardson I would prefer him to stay. enough has been said in the past, for and against the lad. so not going there again. KEEP HIM.
