Does anyone think that a dive to try to get a penalty is as bad as a professional foul for stopping a goalscoring opportunity?

Personally a blatant dive (much like Ridgewell's on Saturday) IMO should be retrospectively punished.

I was at the game and it looked a stonewall penalty from my seat - but every replay shows a blatant cheat to win a penalty which put the game out of our reach - surely a retrospective ban for this type of thing would put an end to it?

Not sure about a ban mate but, it is one course of action. I think the refs have it very hard with the amount of cameras and analysis of incidents and, like you I thought it was a pen from where I was sat. The ref is there to make a decision right or wrong and should be allowed to do that but, with the pressures now on them they should be allowed to review all the incidents they presided over and to either rescind the card/cards or add to those cards. This should be done straight after the game (with the refs assessor) easily done as the majority of clubs tape the games for their TV stations etc. This will not affect the result but, it will make it a fairer way of doing things and should cut out the diving.

I agree about the descision - you don't change the game when it's happening but if the FA look at the penalty incident it is nothing but cheating - IMO video replays - not to chastise the referee who are only human but to chastise the player which has conned the referee - a dive for a penalty, IMO is no different to a player fouling someone to stop them scoring or handling the ball to stop a goal - definite red IMO but very difficult to give from a refs perspective as a lot of us, without the TV, thought it was a penalty at the weekend until we saw the replay!

Yes. It's one thing for someone to go down easy after contact (even if I think it's ****) but when there is no contact, ban the twat retro style! The refs have a hard enough time anyway without having to deal with cheats

Marcus as soon as one of our players makes an iffy trip or elaborates a tackle and goes over then the powers that be will introduce retrospective punishment untill then nowt will happen.youknow when we do something wrong we are rightly punished but history says others that do the same are let off lightly <bubbly>

Not really - but they will analyse potential red card offences and punish if the referees are mistaken - there is nothing to stop them looking into penalty decisions like this where there is no doubt in anyone's mind that it was a dive and the player can have no argument

Well mate, what some may deem one thing, another will disagree..

But i will give you this,

WEST Brom boss Steve Clarke stopped short of conceding that Liam Ridgewell had cheated in gaining the penalty for Albion’s killer third goal against Sunderland on Saturday.

But the Scot wasn’t rushing to the defence of his left-back either in the wake of a spot-kick which effectively put the game out of the Black Cats’ reach.

Sunderland had pulled the game back to 2-1 when Ridgewell dropped to the turf as Adam Johnson thundered in with a misplaced sliding tackle.

    ' a misplaced sliding tackle'

Not sure I understand this. How is it misplaced. He didn't touch the cheating muppet.

I like the way he dresses up the penalty dive by saying they deserved to win - Like **** - We were pushing and looking likely to score at the time when he dived - there wasn't ANY contact until he moved his body towards Johnson! We deserved something out of the game I thought so **** off Clarke!

Wonder what he'd think if his team were outplayed for 90 minutes and drawing 1-1 only for the oppposition to do what Ridgewell did? Wonder if he'd think it was acceptable

The only dodgy tackle was Gardeners which was stupid, but the diving/feining injury lark has been going on for years. Also is our match in doubt tommorow cause it is still p***ing down with rain!, and the forecast tommorow is not good either.

I emailed the FA on this subject last year. They made pathetic excuses for not doing anything and that it was down to managers to sort it. Maybe if all fans contact the FA something might be done
