I didnt get on here last night however, I am shocked and disapointed at the lack of ambition I think the managerial appointment shows. I hope it works out for us but I think it is a huge risk we are taking at a vital stage for the club. I guess now we know who is going to be managing us we start to look at the squad. I had seen some threads and posts on here discussing the players we would want to keep; My first thoughts last night were wondering who would want to play for Adams. I know he is most liukely popular with the young players at the club but in terms of the senior experienced proffessionals that you need in the championship who is going to have their minds swayed to stay and play for Adams? If I was Snodgrass, Howson, Fer, Hooper or Olsson I would be out of the door if the opportunity presented itself. I know that at times we have all been frustrated with Snodgrass but we know he is a top player at championship level along with Hooper, Olsson and Howson. Keeping them would give us a great chance of competing at the right end of the table. We will undoubtedly lose a few players and I wouldnt be surpirsed if most of the names above were those to leave. Either way though, we will be bringing players in at some point during the summer and I am not convinced that Adams will look like an attractive manager in terms of gaining promotion - especially if some of our 'star' players have been tempted away. What had promised to be a summer of rebuilding and gearing back up for the premier league feels like it has already taken its first negative turn and if we arent careful by the time the season comes irreversable details with the squad could have changed. I dont agree with making Neyul manager and I think thats a foolish mistake to ahve made but if we are going to have a successful season there are still plenty of big decisions to be made.
Malky turned us down due to not being prepared to work with a technical director. Adams wasn't first choice but if what DM has said and he will have someone along side him and NA can do what's most important... Coaching and winning football matches. We will lose players, daft not to think that, but we are still an attractive club to come to none the less. Plus players praised Adams for his philosophies in training and on the field compared to Hughton who all these players moved to the club to play under anyway. If hughton managed to get players in, then I imagine we won't have a problem getting the quality in for a championship club under Adams.
Adams had a good record as a player, including a League Championship medal with Everton, and is known and probably well liked by the players while other candidates would have been 'unknowns' to them. This could encourage more players to stay and that would be a big plus factor if it happens. How many players stay will be the first test for Adams, but regardless I've decided to look at it as an adventure which just might surprise us all! OTBC!
