Derry proved to me, we still have real men playing our beloved game. Sadly it's Baletelli in the news this morning. Should be Derry for showing youngsters how to really play the game with RESPECT. Derry plays hard, gets stuck in but you never see him rolling around pretending to be hurt or waiving imaginary card after every tackle. Diabolical decision yesterday on all 3 fronts, but captain of team, struggling for prem survival, live on TV, in front of 75,000 fans, knowing he could now miss 3 of the most important games in recent QPR history .................. and he accepts the decision and walks off with his head held high. Never mind appealing the red, the FA should be in touch to get him as the RESPECT ambassador, but no we will still have Rooney, Terry, Rio and all the other overpaid pratts who couldnt even spell RESPECT, let alone demonstrate it.

But whats worse, I can just see the blazers at FA rubbing their hands to get 1 over on QPR after being made to look like a load of muppets on the Faurlin saga.

    Rant over, sorry

Take my hat off to you, Derry, your behaviour did us proud, even if noone outside of our QPR family bothered to notice. True captain and role model m'lord

Derry was a real model football pro and took his shameful and unjusticed punishment like a man. It is something that cheat young dont know nothing about.

He is part of a dying breed in football now. Not the greatest player to play for QPR or the greatest defender but he is a model professional. You can probably count the number of similar players in the PL on just one or two hands.
His actions did not go unnoticed by everyone outside your fan base I promise <ok>

I'm not sure its possible to become a QPR legend in two seasons but Sean is as close as it possible to get in achieving that. His contribution cannot be overvalued both last season of course but also as the lynch pin of our recent mini revival. JB please take note as to how true professionals play the game and handle their emotions on the pitch. Give him a new contract today...he will become a great coach.

    Spot on

Particularly as Derry had to walk the entire length of the pitch to the players' tunnel

Players like SD give me a glimmer of hope that all is not lost when it comes to honesty on the pitch

My personal view on the "Respect" campaign is that it has been a shocking - though not unexpected - failure, at least in the Premier League, and that the FA really needs to bin it

It is a meaningless slogan for the most part and will continue to be unless the FA gets tough with those who, in any other sport, would be deemed to be bringing that sport into disrepute. Easiest way is to get the referees to wear rugby style microphones so we actually hear the whining and verbal harrassment players give the referees

Great post. I'd said similar things about Derry on two other threads. But you're right, deserves a thread of his own. The real captain of QPR.

Top notch post Jalfrezi, love it! Derry certainly added to the overall proudness I felt after yesterdays loss. Many teams would have surrendered completely and got a right hammering in those circumstances.

    Great post. So right.

When we stay up, let Derry lead the team out at the last home match of the season (Stoke) and at the last match of the season at Citeh too.....and do not let Colin pinch him in the close season (we need him and Clint...and Mackie and Faurlin)

Please tie him to the club with a contract he cannot refuse, make him a coach, then one day he will manager us!

Yeh respect! Read that Neil is after him, Hill and Kenny. We certainly need the first two, but a better keeper.

Derry is a top top professional. Every club needs players like him. And whatever division we are in, I for one hope he stays.

Shows real professionalism to just accept a decision like that. The ref couldnt wait to send him off, and derry held his nerve brilliantly.

Derry's professionalism called to mind - but for different reasons - Arjan de Zeeuw's restraint when the Sewer Rat spat in his face back in '04. He had the last laugh by scoring the winner in that game.

I hope Derry has the last laugh by netting the goal that keeps the Rs up. He's already a hero for sparking the turnaround against Liverpool.

It's funny though, isn't it? All through last season we were banging on about how a completely new team was needed, and yet perhaps our most consistent performers this time around have included Derry & Hill in their ranks.
