One or two of us have asked this before but I'm still in the dark. The little star-shaped icon under each reply is supposed to register our appreciation of the post in question. But it rarely accepts your recommendations, so what's the point of it? Whilst I'm given to understand that it takes 10 'votes' to get 1 rep, I note that everyone gets 1 rep pretty quickly after they arrive but thereafter few ever make it to 2 reps. For all his commendable contributions, it took an age for Northolt to get recognised at second level. Are your rep recommendations usually accepted or like mine almost always rejected?
Okay... wasn't what I was after and left me stumped for an answer. Thanks Bill (typical!). Repped you back out of spite. Guess what? Friggin' thing WORKED for the first time in weeks!!
Yes, and I just gave you some sympathy rep. You get an extra rep point for every 1,000 posts you make as well, by the way.
I'm not looking for personal rep. (Virtual prizes are virtually meaningless.) I'm looking for an answer to why it is that when I feel the need to acknowledge a good reply, the system refuses to accept it. Whilst I understand the attempt to prevent nepotism and the like, it refuses to accept my recommendations for newer people who I haven't tried to rep before as well as more established members after I've spread it around as requested. My point is that the system is flawed and should be revised or scrapped.
I suggest you revolt. Maybe you'll overthrow the nepotistic bastards currently residing at the top of the Not606 hierarchy, and can implement a new, fairer regime.
i had a rep for a while. now it has gone not sure how i got it & not sure how i lost it. but i am going to blame the taffys & eamon holmes
Not sure about the Taffys, but I truly believe that EH is generally to blame for everything since the last ice age....
Actually, just noticed - thanks to those who repped me!! It'd be really nice if we had a message about which article the rep came from, even if it didn't say who gave the rep.
If you go to Forum Actions and click on General Settings. The click on to Settings (next to the Home icon) near the top, you can get to see the last 5 reps you received. It's better than nothing!
