downing will be sold in january imho, but who will rodgers buy instead we were all surprised when he brought assaidi for 3 mill and so far he looks a bobby bargain, i dont think we should be expecting any major names to be signed in jan maybe 1 but the rest i feel will be unknowns like assaidi was, which to be honest im fine with.

There are some real gems out there who have not had the media spotlight on them because they maybe play in divisions or countries where football media doesnt really exist,i hope rodgers and the scouting team come up with some decent targets this jan.

a few possible realistic targets that wont cost the earth.
matias jones FC Groningen / Uruguay £1.5mill 21 yrs old
david texiera FC Groningen / Uruguay £2.5mill 20 years old
Henrikh Mkhitaryan shakhtar / armenia £7mill 23 years old
Sofiane Feghouli valencia / france £10mill 22 years old

we could have all the above for what we paid for downing, makes me sick to even think about it ffs.

replacements for downing - sterling, suso, assiadi.

we need a striker, yesil is not ready for the premiership and needs strength work plus tactical nous.... we'll loan a striker IMO

but the point is well made, comolli's "stats" and kennys approval did nothing to prove the man in the street wrong about downing. the guy actually was far worse than peopel thought he'd be.

Agreed. But we could replace Downing with a one-legged milking stool and no one would notice. <ok>

I'd say that Suarez can also play there. Joe Cole?

I'd go for a striker, there are plenty of cheap ones out there Mush Bakenga would cost £4m-£5m which is peanuts for Liverpool but he looks classy. Alberto Coelho wouldn't cost any more than £1m - £2m especially with Sporting Lisbons current financial issues. Others worth a mention are Abdul Waris & Henrikh Mkhitaryan

    EDIT:

transfermarkt.co.uk has those players valued as follows..

    Bakenga - £2m
    Coelho - No Value
    Waris - £300k
    Mkhitaryan - £10m

Get those 4 players for £15m and we're laughing

Dont need a replacement for Downing.....Suso, Sterling and Assaidi. And have Pacheco, Cole, Gerrard who can do a job.

Ibe coming up from the reserves aswell.. We need a striker in January. Then look at the options next summer rather than paying over the odds in january for someone who may not play.

A powerful left footer would be ideal, or some one who is awesome with both feet. A strict winger is not needed for our style. We need versatility.

Elia, Michel Bastos, Tello, Ben Arfa, Andre Schurrle.

Younes Belhanda is an awesome talent.

If we sign Walcott and loan a striker like I expect, this can wait until the summer.

Still think Iker Muniain would be ideal for us.
Otherwise, we need a keeper, left back and striker.

I agree with the man in the street who thinks we don't need to replace Downing, having more than enough cover there. Especially if we get an all out striker, as that will move Suarez out to one side or the other.

I also fee that we need to be looking at a young goalie and a leftback.

However, I wouldn't even put any real brain power into the striker situation for another 4 weeks, to see how what we have shapes up. Do we need 1 or 2 new front men?

I would love it if we never had to do any business in a transfer window, as we could always count on good quality youth coming through.

Do want to see Cole out at Christmas..

  15. This! It is not often I agree with MITO but he's nailed this one <ok>

  16. ...and Pacheco too. Plus Gerrard, Shelvey and Henderson are capable of playing further forward too. If needs must, I'm sure someone like Glen Johnson could fill in if needed as a last resort <ok>

Edit: And what's happened to this Texiera lad we signed...?

He came on for the U21s for 10 minutes last night. He's had a niggling back injury since he joined

He is utter **** it is true.

But I can just see him joining someone like QPR or Norwich and then scoring against us.
