Its a good thing we won on Sat, otherwise, we would be equal points on relegation zone. Done a little bit of research and the highest amount of points to still be relegated is 52 from what I could see, I can see that being increased this season.
best quote just read on another site."The team that secures the last play off place could also find they have been relegated".
Think two more wins will be enough, couldn't believe the table when I saw tit this afternoon, its so close, cant even say "at the bottom" anyone outside the top 7 could still be dragged into it.
I agree with 55 points, think that will be the safety mark this season, I can't believe how close this league is, any team that puts 3 or 4 decent results together could see themselves making a late surge for the play offs
I know some will disagree but I feel it would be a good idea to beat Brighton tomorrow. I agree with 55, 54 being the third relegated team. That said, Bristol C look like they're gone, Huddersfield have been dropping all season. So one more, and I fancy us to finish ahead of Pboro, Sheff Wed and Blackburn
I expect we're about to start winning our home games and losing away, so I expect a loss tomorrow and a win on saturday
It's a funny old division this season, but that keeps it interesting for most fans. I would say that out of 24 clubs, only Derby are realistically (though not mathematically) both safe from relegation and without a chance of making the play-offs. That must be a first in any division with only six or seven games to go. Leicester were my favourites to win the division but, although they are seventh, they are as far pointswise from Cardiff at the top as they are from Peterborough at the very bottom. A 19 point gap in both cases. And it is not as if Cardiff are a class above the rest, just a bit more consistent. In the old days, before they introduced the play-off system, the season was a dead rubber for many clubs by end February and gates dropped off (and that was in the days when gate-money was what clubs depended upon to survive, before TV money, major sponsors, shirt-sales and the rest of it). The play-off system is inherently unfair in that a team finishing seventh can get promoted at the expense of a team finishing third, but it has been the salvation of the lower divisions. And until recent seasons the play-off matches have generally been a lot more exciting than Cup Finals (though we have had a few dull ones in the last two or three seasons). Who remembers our two matches against Leeds Utd?
3 matches selhurst Elland Rd and then the decider at St Andrews I was at all 3 ... Phenominal night in Birmingham going behind in extra time then shirtliffs double ... Happy days
Uuuff! I remember sitting at home with my mates the night of St.Andrews, and all of us slumping in despair when Leeds scored in injury time, and then going mad when Charlton came right back. I was in a pub in Spain the day we beat Sunderland on penalties at Wembley, but I was there in the flesh when we turned a 3-0 defeat into a 4-3 victory at St James Park. Absolutely wonderfull, although I wore my jumper all night in the pubs in Newcastle so that the natives would'nt see the Charlton shirt underneath!
