He's been top class and is far and away the best LFC keeper I've ever seen (not old enough to remember the other greats).

It does make you worry when we've tried to get rid of Reina who turn around and states whats the club mean to him, yet we're doing all we can to keep Suarez who clearly doesn't want to be here <doh>

He really didn't help by saying "If Barca come calling then I'd have to think about it". We all knew they are the only club he'd probably have left for, but he didn't need to say it, and from the moment he did and the rumours started circling, I don't think BR had any other choice but to buy someone who would be a replacement. BR's job is to look after the team and not be sentimental about it.

Will be odd not see him line up in goal from 17th August and I really don't think he'll be back, no matter what he says about wanting to come back, mainly because we can't afford it.

    Good luck Pepe <ok>

  4. I know this comment would come up <doh>

Reina said he wanted to stay except if Barca came in. That means he is not 100% committed to the club and, although it appears to have been handled incorrectly, we were right to move on.

It is the same reason I want Suarez to move on with the additional bonus that he is a grade A **** <ok>

Reina is Liverpool and was up there with Gerrard and Carragher in stature. I'm ashamed that we have basically thrown him to one side.

I really don't see what's wrong with Reina wanting to go if Barce came calling. He was never going to stay forever. He's given us 8 great years and got back very few medals in that time, which he would have got had he been at another top club had Rafa not signed him. He's been magnificent. If Valdes had of gone this window and we heard Reina was now on his way there, I don't think we'd complain. All he's done is say it looked like a move to Barce was on for this year but then it wasn't, so he will play his socks off until next summer when he will go. We all knew it would happen one day, so why so outraged. The club have dealt with this very shabbily and it reeks of money over player loyalty because it's a two way thing loyalty.

  7. We wouldn't have complained. My point was, we all knew Reina wanted to go back to Barca eventually but he didn't need to say it. Essentially, I think that is why he is now at Napoli.

I'm far from outraged. I don't like the way the club have handled it but I wish Pepe very well.

Edit: obviously, I'd prefer him to still be at the club than not too, even if that means we wouldn't have signed Migs!

I'm glad Pepe has gone. I'm glad Carra has retired. I won't weep if Suarez leaves (at the price we want). I want the club to build a brand new ethos that mirrors the Shankly period. "It's not your leg, it's Liverpool's leg". I want us to talk about our TEAM - who really gives a **** who plays in it provided that they achieve what we want.? For too long we've looked to individuals to epitomise how good we are. From now on I want to see 11 REDMEN battering the opposition no matter where they come from and no matter what 'stars' they contain.

If players play for the team but become Kop heros then so be it. But they are professional footballers who are paid to be here to deliver for Liverpool first and foremost. Their wish for international or CL glory must be secondary to that

  9. Its not often I agree with you Dave, but I'm 100% behind you on this one. I've been saying for a while that, although it will be sad, I think the sooner the players that played under Rafa, Roy and (to a lesser extent) Kenny go, the better. I have nothing against those managers or the players that played under them, they just represent the not too distant past of, bar a League Cup win, failure.

Wonderful sentiment. Be interesting to see how modern generation talents with grasping agents last in that environment. My suspicion is that we'll see the back of Coutinho, Sterling, Ibe and the new generation (let alone Suarez) unless we're winning things, otherwise it's big hat and no cattle.

Trying to find that clip from Liar Liar where he tells the board what he really thinks about them. Or that one from the Simpsons when Ned Flanders' house gets blown down and lets rip on them all. My favourite Simpson's episode ever.

I'm not so sure that you will see the back of Coutinho and Sterling. There is security for these players in knowing that their contract will be honoured and that by putting their efforts into achieving the clubs objectives then, should they want to leave, they will have increased their transfer value. Just as United did with their kids. If your head gets too big eg Sharp you'll be cut down to size! If you play for United eg Neville first and foremost then you'll be well looked after.

If our present squad took to the park with even half of the pride and commitment to playing for Liverpool that Shanks's teams had, success would be assured.

Hope you're right FD, I truly hope you're right AND FSG give Brendan time enough to become a new Shankly or Ferguson.

Reina's given us 8 years - that's a long time, these days, for a top player to stay at a club especially as we've under-performed. Had these murmurings about Barcelona come about after 1 or 2 years with us, I'd say that was dis-loyal, but not after 8 years!

As for not caring about the individuals in the shirt as much as the shirt itself, you may as well get 11 robots v 11 robots and the best programmed win. I learned after Torres [Owen to some extent] not to get too emotionally attached to individuals because they can let you down, but if you take the individual personalities out of it, it becomes a soulless, cold win or lose experience and that's not for me.

sob sob, I've always liked Riena, but it seems to be the same old story every summer! He puts the feelers out to Barca and says that he wants to win more trophies than he can at LFC.

Well I'm fed up of it and it appears so was BR, time to start a fresh with a new promising keeper thats hungry to play and win trophies AT liverpool.

I wish Pepe the best of luck with his career and thank him for being a great servant fo LFC, but have little sympathy for his predicament which he admits he had a hand in. Time for him to move on with some dignity, his little guilt trip is nothing more than a deflection from his real desire to play somewhere else.
