Could somebody please explain to me how Referees are allocated games? I was of the understanding that referees were not allowed to officiate in games that involve teams from where they originate (i.e. Martin Atkinson not reffing any of Bradford's games). However, Lee Mason is from Bolton (Greater Manchester) yet he is reffing games that include a team from Manchester? I know Brendan Rodgers got fined for making a comment on how can someone who comes from Manchester ref a game including the manchester clubs, as it would appear that he is claiming unfair bias. But surely it's just asking for trouble? Lee Mason, the ref from todays game, comes from Greater Manchester.
