Rodgers was my first choice, though I think Hiddink pips him now. The way Rodgers gets his team to play is, in my opinion, superb and I think he'd love the chance to join a club like ours but as HD mentioned, the players may want a more proven manager and one more well thought of in the game, plus the new contract he signed definitely makes the idea less likely. Hiddink however, has a great rep throughout Europe, was loved by the Chelsea team after such a short time, I presume would be interested in taking charge of us, plus the likes of Luka, Bale and co would surely be happy at his appointment should 'Arry take the poisoned chalice.
Its no good, there's not one decent name out there we agree on, so H will have to stay!....any more of those aged England teams he keeps mentioning and that may well happen!

I don't see why you Tottenham fans are looking beyond Chris Hughton. Did nothing wrong at Newcastle and has completely turned Birmingham around, he has Tottenham blood running through his veins and knows the club inside out. Some might argue he has no European experience but give him time, he's only been in management a couple of years, he has to be the best fit IMO....
You just answered the question yourself, he's only been in management a couple of years and has no European experience He won the Championship with by far the strongest squad and got Newcastle to mid-table in half a season. Hardly the stellar CV we should be looking for who will attract big names to the club and encourage our key players to stay. Tottenham blood running through the veins does not a good manager make.

We hadn't had European football when he took over - he got us European football and we want to surpass what we achieved - logic says that a manager with European experience would be more likely to achieve that then one with no European experience. However I have long been a fan of Houghton and can see a time when he might well return to WHL.
We were in a completely different situation then, Harry was brought in to bring stability to the club, the next manager will be brought in with the hope of bringing success to the club.

All valid points - thanks. you do however have to ask yourself what's in it for a Mourinho/Hiddink/Van Gaal taking over, as someone said above they'll cost an arm and a leg and probably want a substantial transfer pot and committment the players will be paid accordingly. This is a crossroads for Tottenham I think, take the next step up and it could be a step into the financial unknown at a time when you're looking to reduce costs to sponsor the ground works - without a huge cash injection I don't see how you can achieve both. Even as an Arsenal fan I genuinely wish you well, too many plastic clubs buying success around the world, rivalry aside at least Tottenham are doing it the right way IMO...
Thanks Grizzly. Hopefully any compensation we get from the FA will cover a couple of years salary for whoever we bring in. It is definitely a crossroads, but the worst thing we could possibly do is bring in someone who causes us to regress as a club and lose our best players.

Getting the right man will be a nightmare- just look at Liverpool's attempts over the last few years - and Manchester City did not get it right first time. We do not have the massive resources backing us to make us attractive enough to the likes of Mourinho in my opinion - even if we were interested. However the likes of Bale Modric Van der Vaart etc would have no respect for such as Brendan Rodgers - he may progress in time but now he is not ready. Chris Hughton is in a similar position although he has at least managed a major club. Assuming we could not get Gus Hiddink who is probably my first choice I would try to poach Martin O'Neill .
