Just seen this in the mirror ....

Harry Redknapp has sparked a massive transfer scramble for Newcastle’s Demba Ba by revealing his release clause is around HALF the £10million mooted over the weekend.

Officials at St James’ Park have been desperate to keep a lid on the fact that the striker, who has netted 15 times this season, is available for the right fee.

But asked about a £10m release clause, Spurs boss Harry Redknapp said: “I think you will find it is a lot less than that.”

Asked if was as little as £7m, Redknapp added: “Even less than that.”

A whole host of clubs are set to investigate poaching the predator who destroyed Manchester United last week with an outstanding display.

Liverpool, Sunderland, Everton and QPR are all in the hunt for reinforcements up front. Ba left West Ham last summer as he had a clause in his contract saying he could quit if they were relegated.

Ba has blown away fears over a knee injury that prompted Stoke to pull out of a move for him last year.

Seriously what is redknapps problem!?! He could be on his way to the most hated man in the NE!
Would be happy to see Ba on wearside tho ;)

We were offered Ba but Bruce wouldn't take a gamble on him... I personally think he'd still be in a job if he had!! Crazy - but if his release clause is around the £5m mark and not £10m as has been mooted then it's a no brainer!!

How on earth that spive Redknapp gets away with speaking about other club's players is beyond me. Any other manager doing this "unsettling" tactic would be given a sharp reprimand by the Premier League but it seems 'arry is immune as he has done it literally dozens of times.

I don't know what Redknapp gets from this. Newcastle are not Tottenhams rivals? If he wanted to buy him surely he wouldn't tell everyone that he is available for a song? The only reason I can think of is that he either has shares in Ba or is good mates with his agent.

What a ****ing arsehole the man is.

Thing is, you can´t say it was bad business putting a 5million buy out in (if this was the case), as the Toon knew he was a gamble (which has paid off handsomely).

Redknapp is blatantly flouting the rules of tapping up, as far as i´m concerned, this is tapping up ýeah I like the lad, by the way we´re in London and probably gonna be playing Champions League next year...´

How the **** does he get away with it, the ugly mug.

Just the way it is these days, though why Ba would leave Newcastle for anyone outside the top 6 right now, as is being speculated on, including us, escapes me.

5 mil will trigger the release clause then there is his contract to buy out (4 years I think) so it'll be closer to about 10mil. Not sure he'd leave unless wages came into it he's doing fine they are doing fine so it'll have to be a hefty payday for him to go.

You wouldn´t have to settle his contract mate, as that´s what the buyout clause bypasses, effectively the club are giving up their claim to compensation.

I personally think he´ll stay till the seasons end at least, in fairness, our neighbours are developing well, and if they keep hold of people like Tiote, Ben Arfa and Cabaye, they could be a canny side indeed with some pace added at the back.

For 5million though, you may see some monster clubs having a look, anyone heard the PSG rumour? They´ll likely offer him 120k a week or summat.

Well, if they are interested, then that´s probably where he´ll end up.

Imagine the chances he´d get from a midfield including Pastore, Bodmer and Menez... being supported by Gameiro (who we totally ****ed up dallying over a bid for..)

    They´d torment that league.

    Redknapp is a cock......

I could see BA going and here is why: He has a knee problem which Stoke say is only a matter of time until its the end of his career. He is probably not on fantastic wages at Newcastle (compared to top4 players wages) and on pay to play. From his point of view if his knee does go and its his career over he probably has not made enough yet to just retire and because of the knee problem he is not insured. So he will be thinking if he can get a 4/5 year contract from someone on decent money then its worth making the move. I think this situation is different from the Bent one with us, Bent went because he was greedy, I think Ba will go because he need a bit more security.

Of course the easy solution is for Newcastle to offer him a new contract on more money with a much higher buy out. That way he could stay without having to worry about his career ending.

I think BA likes playing at Newcastle and I could see him saying if they offer him a new deal. A clever deal would be a contract with a 20m buy out and 25% of that going to the player, that way its incentive for BA to sign a new deal because if he was sold in the summer for 20m he could net himself 5m in the process. Everyone is a winner apart from that crook Arry.

Unless Tottenham have put in a concrete offer for Ba then one eye 'arry has no right to talk about his contract, he just keep his filthy cockney mouth shut

He's a horrible person is old saggy chops.

It was hilarious in the summer when he was complaining about Chelsea unsettling Modric.

How the FA dont fine him for constantly talking about other clubs players is beyond me.

    Agreed mate.

So, it´s illegal for a club to tap a player up in private, but it´s open season to talk openly in the press, which not only taps the player up, but makes every other club in the world aware of the players situation.

    Ridiculous, in the extreme.

When did he complain about Chelsea unsettling Modric?

This whole situation is rather strange, as someone mentioned earlier, if he wanted to sign Ba then why would he hint at the low buyout clause? I haven't seen any evidence that these quotes are indeed accurate and in context, yet and if the stories from a couple of days a go are anything to go by, then the media have probably twisted his quotes by taking them out of context <doh>
