Fast forward 12 months - Sunderland FC helped bring Fl attendances back down to their previous average.
Following the 2009/10 promotion, I read a stat that more people had watched Newcastle be relegated than any club that had been relegated in Europe since the Second World War and that more people had watched them be promoted than any club that had been promoted in Europe since the Second World War. We would have comfortably broken both of these records again this time around.
Yes, yes, but my friend Fredor has a different take on record attendances. You might not have heard this before but...
I haven't been able to find any Europe wide stats for this season but last seasons 49k placed us at 13th in the European average attendance table. This season's 51,708 should move us up to about 11th. In terms of total attendances, this season's 1.17 million should place us about 5th, just behind Real Madrid
I for one, would have liked to have read Fredors' take on it, but, alas, as he's still banned, it's not to be
He just PM'd his reply."We used to regularly lock out 1.17million at Sunderland and the queue to get felt up in the Fulwell End stretched all the way down to York. The only reason you got over 50000 this year was the 130million quid you fastened to the seats. Until you have won the Premiere League 6 times before the industrial revolution you have no right to comment on football. I wont be posting for the next two weeks as I will be scuba-diving on the Great Barrier Reef. Do you remember when Steve Irwin was bored to death by that Manta Ray ....... I have been hired for a bit of role reversal"
