So...the Championship season starts again and all fans will be dreaming of winning league (except for Millwall and Donny fans obviously). So how positive are you feeling about Leeds's chances? Reasons to be cheerful: - We've finally signed a midfielder who can tackle (Brown) - Clayton, Nunez and Lees will have learnt a lot on loan and be competing for the first team - We didn't sell Gradel or Snoddy - Our pre-season form has been good - Kisnorbo is back Reasons to be fearful: - We've signed average Championship players who are no better than the ones who have left - The league will be tougher this year with West Ham, Brum, Blackpool and Leicester all looking good - We'll probably end up selling Gradel/letting him go on a free - No one is talking about us as promotion contenders - We will be dependent on McCormack and Paynter for early season goals What do you think?
Anyone know why we didn't go for Jlloyd Samuel? Would have been a good buy in my book. Maybe he asked Uncle Ken for more than 50p a week in wages?
If that's the case then I wonder why West Ham are sniffing round him. He's only 30 so I'm guessing that long-term fitness wouldn't be an issue?
I disagree that our signings haven't improved on what we got. If you count Tom Lees, Nunez, Clayton and Kisnorbo as new additions to the squad (which they basically are) - Schmichael and Higgs left - Lonergran and Rackuba come in (improvement) Naylor left - Kisnorbo and Tom Lees (improvement) Kilkenny left - Clayton (improvement) Johnson left - Brown (improvement) Watt left - Nunez comes in (improvement) We've got a stronger squad than last season, but whether it will be strong enough, we'll see.
Still a few players short as we all know but we have to optimistic for the season ahead... The only pressure on the players is the fans - The media give us no chance of going up realistically... Its gonna be tough but lets be honest we have been a lot worse scenarios than at the moment... MOT
Our signings are better than the players who have left, I'm fine with us not being talked about as promotion contenders, if I remember correctly neither were QPR or Norwich, and I'm not convinced about this league being stronger business, as many teams have weakened as strengthened.
Agree with you there Simon - No pressure is a good thing.. We just need a decent start to the season and most important no injuries....
Exactly, my only concerns are LB and strength in depth in the middle of midfield. Signing Julio Arca would deal with both of those problems very nicely, pretty please Ken.
We signed O'Dear, who can play leftback. My concern is that SG will make him first choice and won't be looking for another. I'd put Parker, White and even Bessone above O'Dear. It is probably the only frustrating part for me of this summers transfers - the failure to sign a leftback. We've had this as a problem position since as far back as 2007. No one has made this place his own, it looked like Parker would but then he got injured. Grayson has tried too many players there and Bates just needs to spend some of the Kasper money on this. We've only signed Lonergran as a money deal, so surely they're be enough to bring in a quality leftback.
there's a worrying amount of optimism here...where's CliveTime when you need him? Fair points though although I would ahve liked to have seen a bit more class brought in over the summer. Maybe there's still time to bring in a couple of Premiership players on loan - here's hoping.
well im feeling nervous now...bit like a first date... You never know how it is going to go........... COME ON LEEDS!!!!
