Can I say something. I like Wenger the man. His hands are tied. He will be appreciated when he's gone because the idiots pulling the strings will have the same agenda for the new man.

Wenger is worth more than a job 'upstairs'

I think it's pretty telling that much of the support and praise for Wenger on this board comes from supporters of different teams.

That's his fatal flaw.

Its not as though everyone else wins things and you boys don't. Despite the ****...he still has you up there and firmly got your name up there as a formidable club. You know how it is as neighbours we throw **** at each other but we are all grown up to know what's good and what's not. Wenger will be missed even by me when he goes. I'd love him at Spurs but I'm firmly behind project AVB.

Hardly "fatal". I've told you a million times not to exaggerate.

Wenger’s principle of development and financial prudence is informed by the philosophy that building a particular way of playing football, from the academy upward, is bound eventually to yield fruit. Barca as an example have taken 30 years to get to where they are now, dominating world club football. They stuck to their plan and it paid off.

Wenger’s determination to see through his conviction and philosophy in the face of severe criticism is one of the factors that make him one of the world’s best. The short-sighted fans who bay for his blood as a matter of routine may not see it, but does the opinion of these so called fans really matter?

So basically it's the board. Wenger can't run the club to any note but the one your owners play or he would have been out of the door years ago.

I'd add success with Arsenal:

3 EPL wins, 5 second place finishes
4 FA Cup wins
4 Community Shields
A further UEFA Cup final, Champions League Final, FA Cup final and 2 League Cup finals.
16 years qualification for the CL in a row, 13 years qualifcation from the group stages in a row (he basically earnt us our top seed)
Of those successes he also notably had the Invincibles go a season unbeaten in the league and won 2 FA Cup/League Doubles.
We also hold lots of other records during his time such as consecutive times to the last 8 in the league cup and some goal scoring records, i'm sure there are more if i look for them!

And his personal accolades whilst at Arsenal:

Onze d'Or Coach of The Year x4
Premier League Manager of the Season x3
LMA Manager of the Year x2
BBC Sports Personality of the Year Coach Award x2
Officer of the British Empire: 2003
Freedom of Islington: 2004
FWA Tribute Award: 2005
English Football Hall of Fame: 2006
Many times EPL Manger of the month (including interesting february 2011 and feb 2012, so hopefully a good feb 2013!)
And my favourite of them all: World Coach of the Decade: 2001–2010

I would also add his eye for talent - because of his choice of signings we have had the opportunity to see some truely quality players in an Arsenal shirt and with Cazorla he has proven he will still bring exciting players to watch.

Totally agree with that. Wenger has been operating with one hand tied behind his back for the last 7 years and he's still managed to qualify for the Champions League EVERY season.

Personally, I think those who are calling for him to go have not really thought it through properly.

Wenger was progressive. Not any more.

Well we will see if his hands really are tied this January.

The board have come out and said there are 'significant funds available' (according to most at the AST its in the region of 70 Million) therefore if he does'nt spend it just goes to show that Wenger is choosing not to spend big and is NOT financially restrained the way some are making out.

Im unsure, personally think its a bit of both - our frugalness over the last few years is down to Wenger just as much as it is down to our finances.

I think we will have to wait until the summer to find out. January is notoriously difficult to sign top quality players. Not saying it can't be done, but I don't think it would be an accurate judge of the question you posit

The people screaming for his head remind me of a middle aged bloke who has a beer gut complaining his once pretty wife has let herself go and is convinced he can pull some nubile 20 yr old totty .... HE IS THE MOST SUCCESSFUL MANAGER IN YOUR ENTIRE HISTORY.

You need to remember where you were before he came...BELOW US ... and we were complete **** back then.

I hear so many complaining about players having no loyalty yet fans sometimes seem at least as bad.

I don't think I've ever agreed with with COYG but he is right ... I think that those who want him out should be careful about what you wish for

Completely agree with that, apart from I think most of those who are calling for him to go are younger fans who have only ever known Arsenal under Wenger.

I had posted this in a thread earlier this season in response to one of the many "Wenger has made a joke out of our Arsenal" muppets...

16 years of Wenger vs. 16 years before him:

We were a mid-table club for a 3rd of those seasons pre-Wenger. Is that "our ol' Arsenal" we yearn to get back to?

Wonder in which half of that table would outsiders with no previous knowledge think that a) 2 multibillionaire owned clubs emerged to disrupt the 'order', and b) Arsenal built a new stadium in.
