    his agent admitted yesterday that he turned us down for Schalke, i seem to remember Fergie said this a couple of years ago as well but it because we had Owen, shame that, i feel our young strikers would've learnt a lot from him and is one of the best strikers i've seen.

    Didn't he play against us for Schalke and he was gash.

    Can't say I'm bothered we missed out on him. 10 years ago I'd have loved him to come but 2 years ago I couldn't give a ****.

    To be fair, they all were not just him, Neuer kept them in the tie in the 1st leg, and yeah, i would've loved him to come here when Beckham left, i think we would've won the title.

    If true most likely because he would not have got into he side much at all, Madrid sucked him dry and Schalke was his retirement home

    Fergie rated him very highly, once calling him the best player in the world. He obviously wanted to work with him, even when the player was past his best. Signing him would have been a mistake of Larry White proportions.
