Sorry to put a downer on things, but surely signing all foreign players is not a good thing? The reason I worry so much is that we have 'that lot' so early on that I believe their players will know what it means a lot more than ours. Yes they will be told, but will they be up for it? I'd prefer it if we had some true British grit to go with our squad, but with Nolan gone and Barton going, we don't have that.

The way it's looking, we won't have 1 English player in midfield or upfront. That's terrible imo, hated seeing other teams like that. They may be technically good players, but they may not fit in to the PL, no good saying 'they will be stars'. No one knows that for sure, and getting rid of proven players is stupid, especially when you sign two players who aren't exactly the fittest in the world.

I'm always pessimistic, cant help it.

I can see where you're coming from, and of course the amount of foreign players can be a bad thing. But I see as this:

"It doesn't hurt when they leave"

If a home grown Geordie (Carroll) leaves for more money, then you feel betrayed by that player. If it's a younger player you signed for free from some country across the water then it's not as painful. And that's why in some ways I prefer the foreign players. And not to mention, they're brilliant at the ol' Football. <ok>

Newcastle United have been the flag bearer for how English players should be at a club for years. We pretty much topped the Premiership tables for the % use of English footballers last season averaging about 65%, which is impressive. If every top flight club did this over the last 15 years, the England set up would be much healthier.

However, if they don't, why should we? lets try something different for a few years and see what happens.

Part of it's down to the vicious circle that the Premier League has caused with regards to English players, we aren't getting enough quality English players coming through youth ranks and turn to foreign stars, and those English players that do make it that do are ridiculously overpriced and pretty much saved for the top 4-6. It is a shame to lose the English core, but what English players are there that we could realistically get who would be worthwhile? (Not rhetorical)

All these midfielders though, I fear that Vuckic and Ferguson will never get the chance. I would hate to see Fergie go out on loan, he has proven he can do it already.

The problem is the price of English players. For example, Wickham is valued at £10m which is absurd for a player who hasn't even set the Championship alight.

British players have that Fiery passion which i think a lot of foreign countries lack, you look at teams like Barcalona and realmadrid and you think there's no loyalty, just a bunch of mercenaries

how many of their players apart from those who grew up supporting the club really feel attached to the club? Ronaldo is only their to see his own name in the stars

I agree with Leazes, Seeing Nolan go was more upsetting for me than watchin the Judas leave, felt like he genuinly loved the club, and you don't get that kinda character these days, its very rare, Joey leaving will really hit hard, that spirit we had might just be shattered if he leaves this summer...havnt felt that kind of enthusiasm or excitement we had beggining of last season...

I see what you're saying, but imagine Tiote was a young English lad - Now imagine his price tag! Lets say Ben Arfa was being touted a few years back as 'the future of English football' - now imagine his price tag! Cabaye had more touches than any other player in the French league and a pass completion rate of 82% leading his team to their first league win in 50 years, lets say he was doing that as an Englishman - now imagine his price tag!

I agree that losing the English grit could very well destroy the strength of our team, meaning the 4:4s would be a thing of the past...At the same time, in the current climate and with figures like £35m and £20m being thrown around for players with 'potential' how can we possibly compete without going foreign?

At the end of the day Tiote has tons of grit and hes foreign so they are not all namby pamby gritless pussies.

Erm, most of Barcelona's players have come up through their youth system, so to say they are mercenaries is just wrong.

Be positive, boy, be positive! <ok>

MOST English PL players LACK TECHNICAL ABILITY & if we want 50k +++ fans to see & enjoy enertaining, tike-taka, technical & a attacking brand of football, we need these types of players!!!

I see people's point about the money, but people are saying we are going to be class next year. Based on what? A couple of YouTube videos that people have made purposely to make them look good?

I will just have to trust Mr. Carr

My point is that I think people are getting a little ahead of themselves by claiming they are going to be a massive plus without seeing them play. A bit like Sunderland with Riveros and Angeleri.

Both would be great signings, but both are already at top 4 clubs, would require a large to huge transfer fee and probably wouldn't be willing to make the step down.

Sturridge is not realistic, he's been told he has a long term future at Chelsea. Johnson doesn't play regularly at Citeh, and especially won't if they sign Sanchez.
