now that our internationals have tasted the realms of international football in montenegro and turkey it is essential town earn promotion to give every member of the squad the right perspictive of which direction the club is heading. it will be difficult enough to keep our rising stars including messrs bradshaw and collins, so the sooner we are up with the sheffields, coventry and leicester the better.
this will not happen overnight but auto promo to league 1 will be a start, the next important step will be to build a secure base in league 1.
the shrews promo trail is in a healthy position and 6 more points in the next 2 games is possible. shrews need to aim for the stars, and i think they have the squad to make a start to the cosmos.

floreat salopia, amwythig am byth, come on you shrews breath on em shrews, and we copy that houston!

At the moment I can't see Collins having too much of a future at Town, he's got till next may til his contract's up and hasn't looked like dislodging either of MM or Gornell. Shame

I would hope that they offer him a new contract as he has good potential. He has scored two goals this season already and that was in a newly gelling team.

Regarding contracts I wish that they would be more active in sorting them out earlier rather than leaving it every year 'to see if we get promoted'.

Agree with Matster about Collins. He's only 20, not much older than Bradshaw. Does that mean we should discard both if they're not current first team picks? Far too short sighted a policy when you're dealing with promising young players (and I class both in that category). Anyway, I though he signed a 2.5 year deal in January?

I'm not sure I agree about contracts though. Shrewsbury aren't in a position to offer contracts to keep good young players out of the clutches of richer clubs higher up the ladders. If we tried to compete with that, we'd go bust. And even if we have players under contract, we won't be able to keep them if a "big club" (a proper one, Chris Gashead) wants them - nor should we if the transfer fee's right.

Besides which, let's be realistic, things change. Who's to say we'll want to be committed to expensive contracts when players might lose form? Every time we commit ourselves to a contract, we limit our ability to bring in a different player. People talk about tying players to the club but the reverse is also true. It's a balancing act.
