The Authorities, on discovering you played ineligible players for a number of years did not treat Rangers like any other club. All other clubs, to this day fielding ineligible players face a 3 nil penalty for the match involved. No such penalty was given to Rangers.

The SPFL and SFA hit Rangers with penalties that no other club received when they went into administration including withholding prize monies. When Rangers went into liquidation and the new company was allowed to start in the bottom tier of Scottish football, which was passed on a vote by every other league club in the country, the SFA fined the new company for things the old company had done. Seemingly on the proviso that even though there was a new holding company in charge of the club, the club remained the same club. Rangers(Sevco) had to pay those fines before it was allowed to take it's place in the Scottish league.

The forces behind trying to drop Rangers into the championship were the Premiership clubs and Celtic were at the forefront of that. It was purely financially driven.

When Rangers went to the bottom division there was two different bodies in the Scottish league structure. The SPL and the SFL. Within 6 months there was one, the SPFL. This was to ensure that Rangers TV rights would not be lost to the top table teams.

Mainly because Rangers in the third division were getting better viewing figures than any other club in Scotland.

 

This was history, these are the facts of the time. They even reorganised the leagues to make it easier for you to get promoted, on top of the refs you wanted and a transfer window BEFORE your transfer ban
