Finally the truth has caught up with Rangers. Already Hearts and Dundee have made it clear they will vote against Rangers entering the SPL, now TEN of their squad have refused a move to the Newco. What really makes me laugh is that Green clearly did not think through buying Rangers. He obviously thought it was a steal at £5m and that Rangers would stay in the SPL debt free and he could cash in. Now it seems they are destined for Division Three and suddenly his best players are gone. Yes, he is threatening action against the players, but legally he doesn't have a leg to stand on. Are there any Rangers players we would like to see at Elland Road? And do you think HMRC would force a Premier Lge club to go the same way as Rangers if the chance arose?
There are plenty good enough, but wages may be a problem and also bottom prem teams will be sniffing around Aluko, Whittaker, Lafferty potentially Davis, Mcgregor and Naismith will go to the PL
Blackburn are after Naismith and Whittaker and Charlton are apparently trying to sign Aluko, I'd expect Premier League interest in a few of them.
Historically there has been an "unwritten" rule that the Courts do not wind up football clubs (and rugby clubs for that matter). Judges are becoming less inclined to follow that rule recently so I can see that there may well be a premier league club being wound up in the future. I also understand that HMRC are looking to (or have recently) applied to the Court to challenge the situation where, when a club is insolvent, the players are paid but unsecured creditors (such as HMRC) get very little (if anything). I think it was brought to a head as a result of what happened with Pompey where they were paying substantial wages to players and under the CVA HMRC were to receive something like 20p in the £, but creditors didn't get that, and under the latest arrangement they are to get even less. In any other business, when a CVA fails (like it did with Pompey) the business would be wound up.
Personally, I think football clubs should follow the law of the land like anyone else. Why should they be treated differently?
