    The semi-abruptness introduced by semi colon or dash would have disrupted the flow.

    I've had enough of this, so here's the unequivocal truth about Ponders:

    I'm 44 years old.
    I'm unemployed.
    I have no wife and children.
    I'm an alcoholic.
    I suffer from depression.
    I live in a north London bedsit.
    I have no friends to speak of.
    I left school with no qualifications.
    I used to work as a welder but have since worked as a bus cleaner and fruit packer.
    I've been to France, but that's the extent of my travels.
    I rarely read let alone write anything.
    I am estranged from my family.
    I once did a stint in prison for multiple thefts.
    I don't know why I'm telling you this.
    I'll probably kill myself in the near future.
